Is this a 912 or an older 356 block. It's for sale in my area but I'm not even sure what it's out of. The oil plate block off is interesting...

Looks to be a later engine,
The pump cover is a tach drive.

| The serial number is right below the generator mounting surface.....what`s that number? It appears to be a 1956-early 58 engine block. |

Thanks everyone.
I think all the serviceable parts were taken off this engine and were nowhere to be had so I passed. |

| Some would say the best parts are still there. The crank, and three piece case. Care to share its whereabouts and contact info? There is some value in what is shown. |

Sure, it was in a Craigslist Raleigh, NC listing.
I did go to see it and the crank was broken. I was going to offer what the third piece was worth the rest looked past redemption but passed it up.
Maybe someone else can make something of it.
