what would it take for a buggy to be street legal? i don't have a ride yet, but i'd like to make one that i could also drive around town and maybe on the freeway.

It really depends on where you live. Best to check with your local DMV.

It is true that different states have different rules about what is legal or not, but the way I have seen it done is just tag it and insure it just as if it were a beetle. Don't tell them any different and you can usually get away with it. I see street rods run around without fenders and engines sticking out why not a VW. I think the main thing to have is a actual windsheld and good break lights and head lights signals are a plus but you can use hand signals. As always you don't want to make a reason for the Man to give you shit.

I was told that if it is titled as a "roadster" that fenders would be optional.But probably depends on the state's law
