Can anybody help me find a good junkyard in the Bay Area? I've visited 3 over the past week, and have so far only found one Bug. It would be great if someone could help me out :-)
Thanks!

I think there are none left. You might want to look in places like Modesto, Stockton, Sacramento, Montrey. I have not seen a junk yard with any good amount of bugs since the early 1990's

There is a good pick and pull in Stockton off highway 99,usually has more later model bugs, and there is a big pick and pull in Sacramento near Rancho Cordova that has lots of bugs. Had pretty good luck at both of them, never found much in the bay area.

Try BeetleMania in San Mateo 650-579-2848 , it is not a junkyard but he has alot of used parts. I have always had good luck there.

Thanks everyone, I'll visit those locations this weekend. :-) BTW, mine is a '70, in case that means anything. Thanks again!

There used to be one in Concord. I have no idea if it is still there.

The VW one in SanJose is long gone. The owner's name was Al. Going in there use to be fun, steppin on all those parts!
I use to frequent the yards in the area, I use to find alot of early stuff. Those were the days!!
Parts for your 70's bug are still plentiful though!

what exactly are you looking for? i've had better luck asking for something on the forums or in the classified. certainly saves time... unless you're in it for the hunt (which is understandable).

try penn auto in campbell, aint a junkyard, but lots of project cars

theres also a vw shop near san jose state on the eastern side. He always has TONS of projects out front, can't miss it. Sorry don't know the street or anything, just by memory.

PnP onlys holds their cars 90-120 days and then they are crushed. I make the rounds to all of the ones around Sacratomato and the supply is definitely dwindling. Where there used to be 20-30 cars and 5-10 busses all the time there are now less than 10 total on a good day. Rancho Cordova only had 6 bugs and 2 busses last week, Stockton Blvd had 3 bugs and zero busses.

There is a VW only yard in Roseville (just north of Sac towards Reno) called BW Auto Dismantlers. They're really in business for the newer stuff but they still have lots of old bugs, Ghias, and busses, even a Thing or 2. But they tend to be proud of their parts.

Thanks so much everybody,
I got totally lucky yesterday, and by chance happened upon the San Jose Pick 'N Pull near Milpitas, and got the exact part I needed. If anybody else needs a San Jose junkyard, they had probably around ten bugs from '65 to '74. It restored my faith in San Jose junkyards, that's for sure!
Thanks again :-)

Bud's Bugs in Concord (Port of Chicago, technically) has been gone for years. Pick Your Part in Hayward has a few Bugs but well picked over.

4 years ago Bud's Bugs was the best place but he sold out to some American car yard and they closed his place out.
