I read alot of old post but nothing new about this!
Where can I find it:
The original Kamei or a replica.
I am looking to find it for long time for my 72 SB and can't find it no where, where I live in Quebec Canada?
Can you help me? |

This is totally different from your pic, and it's way ugly, IMO. But it's made to fit on a Beetle and could probably be modified to look more like what you want. Otherwise I have no idea where you'd find a Beetle-specific air dam. Hopefully someone else can offer up more helpful info. Good luck. |

usually you have to get in on the group buys on super beetles only. Thats if you want a Kamai. Other wise I assume make one or cruise the classifieds. |

I'm glad I ate dinner well before looking that site. A whale tail on a beautiful old vert? Would somebody do that? Please don't answer- it's too horrifying to contemplate

The Kamei ones are virtually impossible to find. They were never a large volume item. And they were made to fit early Beetles in the 1950s

If you want one really bad, I found these over here in Germany:
http://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/vw-kaefer-frontspoiler-kamei-neuwertig/348066055-223-2559
http://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/vw-kaefer-frontspoiler-von-kamei/344597824-223-2814
http://www.typ-17.de/product_info.php/language/en/...-1500.html
I have no idea if they ship to Canada.
And shipping cost will be vertiginous I suspect... |

It's well worth the effort to find one. If you like the GL style they look great, and transform the aerodynamics of the car

If you are investigating shipping, you should investigate bumpers as well.
In the US, front bumpers were the same for model years 1968-73 including Super Beetles 1971-73. That means that includes both years for the 1302 and the first year 1303.
If you go to the CIP site, the front bumpers with the integrated turn signals (ACC-C10-1135) say 1968-73 but they do not include Super Beetles.
In Europe, the bumpers never got bloated as they did in the US starting with model year 1974, and they started having the integrated signals starting with model year 1975 -- Supers and standards. I don't know if they were the same as previous years there or if they differed from their earlier years as well as the US same years. (I assume Canada would be the same as the US, but I'm not positive about that either.)
I got one for my '71 Super through a group buy a few years back. I no longer have the car or the Kamei. I thought the differences between the two styles were up-thru-1973 and post-1973 US-spec bumpers -- not standard (1200/1300/1500) and Super (1302/1303).
Shipping will probably add a fair amount to the cost, but they are worth having for any driving over 60 MPH. Just make sure you're ordering the right one.
BTW, the Kamei from the '50s mentioned earlier is indeed very rare but in some ways different. I have never seen one in person, and only saw one for sale (here, actually) once and that was many years ago. |

A bit off topic but may be you like it anyway...
Taken from the KAMEI site http://kamei.de/kamei-story_subID-2_en.html:
This "Kamei Bug" is displayed at the "Volkswagen Museum Wolfsburg" I believe:

If you stay on top of it and the company supplies comes around for there was a company or some guys making them in Australia, you may be able to get one.
Check Ebay, Here, Google and the whole shebang... Thing is there was a group out of Australia making fiberglass ones, so you just have to stay on top of it, those are the guys I got mine from about a year or so ago.. RB |

hi I bought one 3 years ago I paid $260.00 for it. it was a kamai .I did not like it. it slowed my bug down. dropped my mph to only 84 mph top end . and if it was windy out it slowed my bug even more . I did like the looks of it on my super . and when you park you have to be very care full you don't hit the curb . I thought it was cheaply made but if its made in Germany import duty and to me it was not worth the $260.00 I paid for it. I am sure others like theres . just my take on it and just my two cents spencerfvee |

I didn't have any problems with it slowing the car down, but I do agree that they're kinda cheaply made. The place where it mounts to the bumper brackets aren't braced, and broke on mine after a few months. I didn't hit any curbs with it either.

You had a Kamaie, I have a copy. I did not really notice a top end speed difference but I did notice that my car tracks better at speed once I put it on..
This is that I just wanted to point out, that the copy I got from Australia I got for like $145 shipped and took like 10 days to ship.. I am in the U.S.
You say that you got a speed reduction, on mine I did not, thing is I mounted mine on the inside of the front bumper and wrapped it around, I have seen some mounted on the bottom of the bumper which gives you more surface area that I have...
The good thing I do like about mine is that it reduced lift plus helps track better at speed... RB |

I don't notice any speed loss with my Kamei, and maybe a matter of opinion, but I'm quite happy with the quality of the spoiler.
My spoiler has the Kamei logo engraved on the inside at the top center. The white sticker is also a Kamei label, but the flash reflected off of it.
They do hang lower than the front apron of the car so they might scrape on curbs:
