I don't see any problem fitting a Riviera highttop on a westy, I have the full metal roll bar for strength.

cdennisg wrote: tonychavalia wrote: Cool find, unfortunately you wont be able to swap a Riviera top with out alot of work. The Riviera company used sunroof transporter buses and converted them where by 74 Westys had their own specified roof opening. It can be done but difficult.

I put a Riviera top off a 78 bus onto my 70. The hole for the RIV is larger than a stock sunroof hole. As I recall, Westy used sunroof buses for awhile, but RIV cut their own hole.
Both of you missed the Riviera Vista part of that

Aside from the headsplitter bar that'd make one really roomy camper.

That is my plan Busdaddy!

I accidentally copied and added to an old list before, this is the newest version I have.

If you've got a Champagne Edition, or know of a Champagne Edition around, snag it's VIN if you get the chance! I can place it in the production if we get the VIN!

And CE owners, feel free to post all the photos you want of your rides.

And quit with that Riviera shit! jk it's all good.

Does anyone else have a California CEI? Do I have the only one on thesamba?

I had a 1977 CE-1 San Francisco import sunroof model with about 88,000 original miles that, like a complete moron (well, at the time we thought it through, it was the right thing to do. :? ), I sold back to someone in Germany. It was on the Samba classifieds and EBay. Sold for $6,500 after I put a bunch of work into it.

 Hopefully, past-tense owner photos qualify!

Yes... I miss it. Let me know if that is too many pictures... don't want to be a douche!

secretsubmariner Thu Oct 01, 2015 8:44 am

Awesome dude! No, not too many pictures. I'd like this thread to be a huge conglomeration of visual aids and technical specs on these special editions, for future searches, future generations, and future owners who need references and information for restoration. It's also fun to see them in action!

My bus is coming along rather slowly at the moment, waiting on engine machine work. Hoping to have all the pieces ready for the rebuild by Halloween.

secretsubmariner Thu Oct 08, 2015 7:09 am

I'd like to discover more about the Champagne stripes kit. These buses are all 78's, but not champagnes. Just found it interesting.

I'll bet if a customer really dug the stripes but didn't want the brown a dealer could have the parts department bring in a stripe kit and install it on any bus they liked, whatever it takes to make the sale. Also a few years after CE's were sold the parts department would be clearing out kits for cheap, it'd be an easy way for a dealer or flipper to bling up a used bus and get it off the lot.

secretsubmariner Thu Oct 08, 2015 7:56 am

That's awesome BD! Thank you. I bet finding a NOS stripe package would be $$$.

I've seen them now and then, not horribly spendy in most cases, but 38 year old vinyl and adhesive doesn't age well either, most were just a curiosity.

secretsubmariner Thu Oct 08, 2015 8:52 am

Yes I can't imagine it would be in very good condition unless it was stored in a cool, dry place for all that time. But even still, if I found a NOS set, I'd be all in and buy it right away.

In a thread from 2010, someone mentioned that hazetguy had a set for sale 'a while back'. I have pm'd him. I hope he responds and has a couple photos of this rarity.

If you happen to stumble across any more, BD, I hope you let me know!

73sports Thu Oct 08, 2015 10:34 am

The value to finding a nos stripe kit would be to use it as a template and then make a reproduction kit. That is the route I did a few years ago when restoring my Sports Bug. Once the vinyl place has the data in the computer, they can make up a set whenever they need to.

Collie Thu Oct 08, 2015 11:47 am

When I bought the inventory (that is now German Supply) there were numerous boxes of NOS stripe kits for Rabbits, Dashers, etc and they were NOT useable.

Yes, an excellent idea. It would be nice to receive this information from the shop afterward on a usb drive.

Nice! You still have any?

I admit, I only want a NOS champagne stripe kit for the novelty of it.

Thanks for popping in! Your first post, too! nice.

You can find lots of info about your bus from this lil plate:

(it's on the fresh air ducting)

The VIN you can find on the dash up by the windshield.

And please, post some photos to the site when you get a chance, and add them to this thread! (or start your own thread!)

Wilkommen!
