Greeting ladies and gents!
I have a stock 1600 engine w/generator on the Thing I bought a few weeks ago. The PO replaced the original stock engine back in 1990, the SN plate riveted in place of the original SN area is strange 5545 AD- 451691. The engine bay needs cleaning overall - a lot of build up of dirt, oil etc looking "wet" around my fuel pump and used carb cleaner to dissolve all that debris. I see what looks like 92 (manuf year?) in a circle molded on the side of the pump when you are looking straight at it near the base by the pin.
Now that it's cleaned off, I can see a little fuel starting to seep from under the top cover from the distributor side. My questions are 1. should I get a rebuild kit for the leaking fuel pump or order a new pump? 2. I plan to do an Alternator conversion so do I need to also change the fuel pump to an alternator model? 3. replace the fuel pump push rod for preventive maintenance if I replace the pump?
I have a new fuel pump stand and gaskets that I was going to change, but will hold off putting those in until I figure out the pump issue.

| My 2 cents, any time I question the operational integrity of any part on any of my vehicles, I change them. I changed my fuel pump last year, I don't remember how much, but I don't think it was much. Always worth the piece of mind to me. |

| Changed mine to alternator and had no problem keeping the generator style fuel pump. |

| Thank your for the replies, I think that since it's at least a 23 year old part, I might as well replace it as a unit. I'll check the condition of the fuel push rod and if it looks unserviceable, I'll order a new one at the same time as the fuel pump. |
