View original topic: '72 Ghia 1600 DP vacuum system

I'm trying to make sure that the vacuum lines in my '72 Ghia are all sound, so that no leaks will keep the engine from running smoothly. There are two parts of the system, though, that I'm having trouble identifying, in case they are serviceable or have replaceable parts. Here they are:

I've looked at several 1600 diagrams but haven't found these.

Thanks for any help!

In the 1968-Up Beetle forum, search for this topic:

"Introduction to throttle positioner and altitude adjuster!"

That explains those parts.

On a side topic, does your air conditioning compressor work? It's extremely rare to see an original compressor.

Found it! That's a huge help. Thank you.

Yes, it does. It switches on, and the air blows cool. I need to experiment with it to see if it actually goes cold; probably it needs a recharge, which means a conversion.

I'd never seen one before. It seems to have been dealer installed, along with the control and vent unit under the dash. The downsides, though, are (1) it is nearly impossible to adjust the carb idle and mixture because it's in the way, and (2) there is no room for a cool air hose (!) from the doghouse to the underside because, again, it's in the way.

Remind me to remind you to remind me to start a thread on the AC unit in this one, just for reference.

Ok, I'm reminding you! :D
I have never seen an original functioning AC system and would love some more photos, but don't want to go off topic on this thread.
