Safari install complete. Other than one bracket, which was missing a weld nut...

Finished the safari bracket..Wolfgang shipped it out right away. Also finished the Westy seat install and edited my install notes from previous page. The Late bay Westfalia bed install was much more work than expected....
Also got my Wolfsburg West cargo area mat today from ordered Concept1 VW closer to here..it's great! |

I got some mail:
Can't wait to get it installed. But first, how do I adjust the rear hatch door from side to side? I don't see anything other than on the side of the door, there are some spacer type things below where the hinges attach. Even with those, my door sits off to one side, with double the gap on the left. There is some side to side play in the hinges...can they be adjusted, or??
Or is the adjustment just in the latch? |

The side adjustment of the hinges is a rather savage operation, basically it involves giving the hatch a sideways push while almost closed (open enough to not scratch anything) to bend the hinges slightly. (you may need a helper and some stools to stand on for a good push).
The stops you are pointing at can be moved in and out a little by loosening the screws, move the wider side in and the narrow side out a little, you'll also have to move the main striker over a bit as well. It'll take some trial and error to find the happy spot, sometimes it helps to keep a log of every move and the result so you can undo, or do more if a move is or isn't helpful. |

An impact driver like the ones for motorcycle screws that you hit with a hammer is money well spent for that job, time, corrosion and torque has made those screws really happy to stay just where they are. |

Looking good on the rear safari ! I just got one also but it's missing screws. Did you happen to know what kind was used for yours? Length or head or size etc ? Is it a CIP one ? Also is there a template as to where to mount the tabs to the hatch ? |

Mine is from Wolfgang. All screws supplied and they are just Phillips head sheet metal screws...nothing special. Pre-drill is 1/8". For the welded tabs, I found a YouTube video that just showed closing the window all the way, latching it, and placing the tabs there. I did that, marked it, then opened it and placed it on the marks to test. It worked well. When fully open, it's about 80-85 degrees off vertical. |

The same screws are used to mount the latch tabs...about 1/2" long. Heads are much larger than I would have expected.

Got a good deal on some dual Weber 34 ICT carbs. I have been struggling with getting the re-jetted 30 PICT 3 running right...I think it needs throttle shaft bushings. Was going to rebuild a 34 PICT as should be on this 1600 DP, but these came up locally. |
