Does anyone know of any sites that give a good how-to on shortening a pan? I hear that its not too hard, but I would like to see how someone else did it rather than just jumping in. Also, I am buying a welder, and I heard that the Lincoln or Miller 135 is a good choice. Is this welder sufficient to do the pan shortening job? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

that welding machine will do just about everything you need. the only hard thing about shortening a pan is the it getting it aligned up straight after you take a section of it out. |

If I remember correctly the James Hale book "how to modify vw bug ..." has a section on chassis shortening, and there's a bloke who often sells copies of the manx shortening instuctions on ebay.
Hope that helps

I have the book 'How to build your VW Based Dune-Buggy' circa 1969. It has shortening plans also. If you want, shoot me an e-mail and I'll scan it and send it to you. |
