Does anyone know of any sites that give a good how-to on shortening a pan? I hear that its not too hard, but I would like to see how someone else did it rather than just jumping in. Also, I am buying a welder, and I heard that the Lincoln or Miller 135 is a good choice. Is this welder sufficient to do the pan shortening job? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

that welding machine will do just about everything you need. the only hard thing about shortening a pan is the it getting it aligned up straight after you take a section of it out.

If I remember correctly the James Hale book "how to modify vw bug ..." has a section on chassis shortening, and there's a bloke who often sells copies of the manx shortening instuctions on ebay.
Hope that helps

I have the book 'How to build your VW Based Dune-Buggy' circa 1969. It has shortening plans also. If you want, shoot me an e-mail and I'll scan it and send it to you.
