I found a "New" OEM Sliding Door Bottom Track that says "'69-'72 transporter" on the box. Does anyone know if this could be made to fit my 1979 bus? I'm thinking this is just too good to be true.

I assumed you were talking about the trim piece.

Looking again at your original post I'm now unclear, are you talking about the actual metal track (http://www.busdepot.com/9555042) or the trim piece?

Well, I don't know about Clare (OP) but I need the entire metal track to replace a rotten one on a '73 I have.

Does anyone have any experience with that BusDepot offering? I can't see much in their photo.

That bus depot item is not what the door actually slides on. If you go to the parts diagram ( http://www.busdepot.com/details/busmetal/ ) you will see it is more so the very inner rocker than what I would consider the slide track. I hope this helps. I did find the part that the door slides on for my bus (1970 transporter) I'll see if I can find it. Although it was pretty crapy and I'd suggest going to a junk yard for one, it'd be better quality.

How about posting a picture of the actual part on your bus that you want to replace? It will save us from guessing. Chances are you will need more than one part as there are multiple layers of metal in that area.

Also, the part in the ad you posted is not OEM. It is aftermarket made in Denmark. They also distribute in the USA. http://www.klokkerholmusa.com/

That's not "OEM", it's the same crappy Klokkerholm trash that almost everyone sells, often requires drilling apart and rewelding upon installation if you want the door to work.
That said it's a good price and near you, don't know why it says -72, the track is the same all years.

Yes it'll work on a 79.

Here's pictures of my (whats left of it) door slider rail. I think I might just purchase the after market part. In Southwestern Ontario I doubt that I would ever find a good example in a junk yard. Thanks all for your help.

Yikes! That track is even worse than mine! It's a complicated assembly, consisting of at least 3 parts, and possibly more. It's rare to see quality repair parts for that in the US, but

Those pics are worth a thousand words. You will need the multiple layers or components replaced. See the bus body diagram link posted previously. That repair is not for the faint of heart or the uninitiated.

that's a f*ckin mess. better bring your a-game to repair that, otherwise you ill have a door that will never be right.

Yep. Drilled out spots and realinged. The klockkercrap is hefty but crooked. Mine works like new now after about 20+ hours reworking the entire rocker area like yours. Had sliding door off and on about 20 times as well. Without the sliding door working a bus is just a piece of crap. Fix the sliding door and it brings it back to life.

As posted that is a major job. Take a look at these post and I would suggest you get one of the restoration books. Before you dive in.

Thanks for your input, guys. Unfortunately, the guy with the part has already sold it (forgot to remove the add). No problem, I know it's a major job and I'm in no hurry. I'm going to take the time to research out the parts and I'll take a good look at the information that you guys have provided. Thanks.
