Forum;
This is just a note of Greeting from a vintage Volvo specialist who found his way to this forum while researching some electrical Blinker issues as they apply to '60 vintage Volvos. The technology between our vehicles is obviously quite similar, although I am surprised how many variations (including Terminal number designations) of two and three terminal Blinker Elements there are...I guess the European car industry (clearly lead by Bosch) was just starting with standardization in this era.
I just registered here, having been moved to it after going through ALL pages of user BulliBill's 1959 DC restoration documentation (OK, mostly just the pictures, but I probably read all of his detailed descriptions on his restoration methods and techniques!). Really impressive!
The level of attention to detail is second to none (I'm guessing he has German blood!), and the finished product is just gorgeous! I couldn't help but be reminded of two VW Bullis...one operated by the Telefunken Co. (professional microphones made nearby in Connecticut, which assure near perfect conversion of bluegrass or other music into electrical signals to be amplified or recorded, see: http://www.telefunken-elektroakustik.com/literature/press/telefunken-vw-microbus-aes.php ), or the one also recently restored by the brewery in the German town where I spent much of my youth. See: http://www.eschweger-klosterbrauerei.de/news-aktuelles/blog/bulli/ This makes me aware of the popularity of these vehicles...and I think it's great!
I operate the Swedish-Embassy site (http://www.sw-em.com), hang out on the http://www.Brickboard.com, www.volvoforums.org (English) and http://www.networksvolvoniacs.org (German) forums, pouncing on any electrical issues which come up, to help posters get them sorted, and really consider myself only a guest here...I don't expect to hang around on this forum much, but I have found my way here more than once during recent searches on electrical issues.
I have been helped by, and appreciate the technical information presented here by several competent VW specialists, and looking around at the forum it is clear to me, that this community of enthusiasts is as vibrant and healthy as the vintage Volvo community is. I just comes to me, that we, and other vintage car folk, should stick together, lest all of our vehicles be classified as pollution sites by the EPA, and/or unsafe road-hazards by the DOT, forcibly removed and recycled, and allowed to be turned into modern, by them approved, hybrid vehicles for us to drive...vehicles with no soul or personality, but 40 safety advisory (CYA) stickers, 13 Airbags and realtime auto-reporting back to the NSA of when we don't buckle our seat-belts, or exceed the speed limit! No thanks!
That's why I'll strive to keep vintage Volvos running, and wish all comrades in arms/wrenches and friends of vintage vehicles on this forum a Happy New Year...may your sheetmetal stay protected and unmolested by the demon rust...may your electrical connections stay clean and tight, and may you use Anti-Corrosive Zinc Paste (and NOT dielectric grease!) to protect ALL of them (see: http://www.sw-em.com/anti_corrosive_paste.htm )...may all of your vintage fasteners be torqued to their specified tightness, and loosenable with hand-tools only, not needing airtools or the torch, because some smart, well-meaning good guy who came before you, applied Graphite grease long ago!
Cheers from Connecticut!

My wife and i used to work for Volvo Cars of North America in Rockleigh, New Jersey, from 1977 to 1987... I have a lot of manuals, belt buckles, some parts and factory photos, I'd sell...
Volvo and VW both used Bosch electrics... Volvo's 5 cylinder diesel was a VW engine too...
Volvo's (joint venture)V-6 in the 80s was also used in the Delorean sports car...
Volvo Cars is Chinese owned now. I hear they are producing the best car ever.
... bought this Vanagon Westy, new at Red Bank VW Volvo, in 1982 for the discounted $13,000... and travelled North America for almost a year in it :-)
Only completely broke down 5 times :-( In hindsight shouldda' bought a Volvo wagon.

Funny you would show up now, I have a reclusive neighbor, no computer, asked me to help him sell his 89 240DL, 58,00 original miles. Any advice would be helpful. |
