Hey All. Been having this issue with my Thing for a while. Every time I start up the engine, it seems like it dumps a lot of fuel in and runs very fast. I smell a lot of gas. The carb also rarely goes off of fast idle unless I reach back there and turn it off manually. And when I re-start the car even after it being on a while, it goes right back to fast idle and dumping gas in. Plugs were pretty fouled so I replaced them. But issue is still here. I'm not very knowledgeable with carbs at all. Mine's a stock 34 pict 3 that I had mine rebuilt by a very knowledegable carb guy in TX a few years ago. Worked great for a while, then this started happening. Stock engine too. Any thoughts on what to try to fix this? Thanks a lot.

Check your Carb and Fuel Pump... It may be putting out too much preasure and it is not being hadled by the float and needle on the carb...

Is your auto choke in working order?

Not sure, How do I check on that?

This issue does sound like the choke,

Pictures of your setup may help. I also believe they have an electrical connection to the choke as well.

Air filter could be stopped up, there may be a few other items to muck with it but the choke not cutting off after engine warm up and a throttle tap is sounding like the choke.

Post a few pic's so we can see it AND, do a search on the THING/Type 181 forum for choke issues and see if there's any other posts on the subject.
I did a quick one and saw a bunch.

Don't worry about not being knowledgeable on carbs, this is how you become knowledgeable, Asking.

Heck, i'd never set valves before on any car I've had till i got the 73 Thing! lol.
Good luck with it and hope you find some info or a existing post or maybe someone will chime in, but we may need more info.
