My Golf III now has over 410,000 miles on it. It runs like a top and still looks pretty decent, as well, but I need to be thinking of a replacement daily driver. I've decided I probably won't buy another new Golf (like my Golf III was), because I don't want a turbocharged engine. What I'd like to find, if it isn't too old by now, would be a CPO Golf with my second favorite water-cooled VW engine; the 2.5, 5 cylinder.
So, am I dreaming, or have they produced them (for the US market) as recently as 2014/2015? |

Still possible to get a lease return, and you could consider a Jetta.
Golf & Jetta where both made in Mexico, unlike earlier Golfs. |

All Mk5 and Mk6 Golfs were built in Germany. Mk7, on the other hand are mixed, but mostly Mexican production. |

Yes. A lease return would be what I'd be looking for. Wouldn't want a Jetta, however. The dumbed-down 2011> Jettas were a big disappointment, for my wife and me. We bought a 2010 Jetta, instead of a new 2013 Jetta, for her to drive and we love our 2010.
However, I hate the poor rear visibility of the Jetta, vs. that of my Golf and I don't need the extra trunk space. So, a Golf would be my choice over ANY Jetta.
Then, again, my Golf is used primarily as business transportation and I'm contemplating retirement fairly soon (possibly at year's end, if not sooner). So, I may just stick with my trusty Golf III til then and forget about replacing it, ever. When I'm retired, I'll be driving nothing but my old MGs in the summer and, maybe a restored QSW when I actually need to go anywhere in the winter. Of course, that will require me to get back to work on a 65% completed QSW restoration, when I'd rather be restoring MGs, so...................... |

I've been highly impressed with the build and component quality of my Mexican assembled Golf III. Other than that damned automatic transmission (automatics are f_cking time bombs!), my Golf has been pretty much bullet-proof. |
