View original topic: Turbo my 1835, need help!

I bought a sandrail a month ago. It had a worn 1600, kicked that to the curb and put an 1835 in it. Took it to the dunes and was happy with it but I just want the little bit of extra out of it. I was given a M12 turbo it's a 50 trim. This I my first time messing with turbos. I just wanted to see if anyone was running this turbo on their aircooled. I'm not to sure about the cam I have in it being the right fit for a turbo, and the emotion tubes in the dells would they have to be changed for the turbo? so I could also use knowledge in that area as well. Here are the specks of the 1835. And I'm not planning on putting anymore then 10 lbs of boost threw it.

Compretion ratio 9:1
Bug pack 4062 cam
dual dellorto 40's
German head 041 I think..
180 main jets

I'm trying to get pics up here too for you guys.

That cam will be great.
Yes you need the turbo emulsion tubes, if the carbs are jetted correctly now you won't need to change anything else on them. 180 would be a pretty big main, I bets that 180 air corrector.

You'll need timing control

Boost referenced fuel pump.

It's best to run a blow off valve with blow through. I run a cheap Audi one.

Your compression and that cam pretty much demand some high octane fuel if your going to boost it. 10 psi is a good bit for a 9:1 motor. You may want to go for 5-6. That's plenty to bring some major life into it.

Thanks for the intell. CB might have turbo tubes I can get my hands on,the carbs are doing great for me at 180 mains, it was way lean at the 155's I bought for them. And it's running so good with the 180's I haven't messed with it. I figured I needed a fuel pump, I've never herd of a boost referenced fuel pump. What Would be a good option there? And same with the timing control what's the best way about going threw that? I figured I want this motor to last so 10psi was my alsolute max. I'm sure a little will go a long way with the turbo setup.

If the plugs look good don't touch the jetting.

CB has the tubes for sure.

Yea when your blowing through carbs the fuel pressure has to stay above the boost level or fuel won't flow. You can "boost reference" a stock fuel pump or buy an efi pump (something that does over 13 psi if you want 10 boost) and a regulator from CB to boost reference it. I run a ford e2000 pump on mine. But the stock pump should be capable of feeding an 1835

You can get by locking your distributor advance and setting the timing somewhere in the 20-24 range. But the control box is the right way. CB has a timing box as well as a msd boost timing master. That lets you dial in retard accoding to boost. So your distributor acts normal when not under boost.

CB performance has most all the stuff, the carb hats and stuff too. I can't speak for the turbo size. That's one aspect I'm not great at. I bet someone more familiar with turbo size will come in.

Thanks for the help!

9:1 is really high for turbo compression, especially with stock heads and crank. Are they really fly cut or something?
