Glen when you read the spec sheets on distributers, they give the amount of vacuum advance. When you pull the dizzy apart, you can see that there is more movement in the advance plate then is being used. So my question for you is how is the amount of vacuum advance controlled? Is it a factor of house much the vacuum unit's arm moves, or is it something else? If it's the vacuum can, which can (that is available) give the most movement?

First off, it's best to PM if you want to ask a specific member a question. There's no guarantee that the person will see it.

The amount of movement is controlled by the vacuum canister. That is why there are so many different ones. The specs are only accurate if you have the stock carb and the stock distributor with the correct vacuum canister. Mixing and matching will give unpredictable results.
