Little more today. Gas tank out. Dumped alot of crap out of it but looked great.

Spring plates off. Saved the hight measurement once dropped so It should be easy to get them back in the same position.

Think I will need to cut the shock bolts. Both stuck to sleeve.

Steering wheel removed. Just lifted off. :) Slight bend in the wheel. Not sure I should try to straighten... Didn't notice until steering was unhooked and wheel spun. Definitely don't want to crack it.

"patch" removed from left side. Someone cut a section out of the inner and outer rockers. Some filler in that side so will remove that before deciding where to seam the panel.

Put on the rotisserie tonight. Quite happy. Was planning to add one more section but not sure it will be that usfull. It is a little springy. I could add a few braces but don't think it's necessary.

Need to add safety bars to prevent it falling back.

Now I need to clean all this grease off the bottom...

And my dash arrived today. Very happy with it. Will be awhile before it goes in though.

Pressure washed some. Messy job. Getting most of the crap off.

Under the front was painted black. Looks original. Did these come with black under the front?

Seems the black under the front is some kind of undercoat. Found it elsewhere on the frame. It is a bit rubbery and I can scrape it off.

There were a couple different types. Some saved the steel from moisture and some ended up holding more crud against the metal in the long run. The rubbery stuff had a tendency to crack and allow water to enter and puddle inside it. There were several places, even dealers, that offered "undercoating" which literally meant "under" as opposed to paint undercoat.

My original plan was like yours but decided I wanted better access while working so only went with a partial loop. Once one side is done I can switch it around to other side.

Stripped the bottom today. Saved the brake lines for patterns. Took lots of pic for the reassembly. Everything came off easily except the ebrake pin. Will keep putting the penetrating oil to it.

Getting more of the undercoating scraped off. The two cross member were thin and are cheap to replace so coming out. Will make it easier to replace the center heater tube anyway.

Think I should remove the y pipe. Just the floor holding it and can't get at some spots with it there. Do most remove it when doing similar restorations?

Found a brass plate in the vent pipe... And half a pencil. :) I will keep the plate. Not sure what I can do with it.

Removed some more today. Got the Y tube out. That was not fun. Love how they put the seam along the back of the floor. Very hard to get the spot welds out. Used a 10" long drill bit and bent the lip a little.

Reductions apart. All bearings need replacing but gears look great. Axels, fulcrums and gear have damage. No noticeable deformation but something very hard got in there at some point and cut up the surface. Nothing in the bottom so must have been leftover from a past repair.

Transmission stripped. Looks very good. Synchronizers all good. Will replace reverse gear and the bracket which has a groove cut in it. The differential bearings need replacing. Need new bushings for shift rod. Think it may be the original transmission. Is there a way to see what year the case number matches?

So I guess this is normal wear. I will pick up a set of used plates and gears. Axles I will switch sides.

Removed most of the bad steel from the bottom. Need to pick up some sheet steel. Cross members, outriggers and jack points should be here this week.





Seams like a lot of work to remove the clutch tube to put this cross member back...

Built an engine stand tonight. Tube from an old bed frame, part of a drive shaft and some 1/4" plate. Not great looking but good and solid.

Some parts arrived. Orange stuff is lower quality but with it underneath it won't matter much. Picked up a length of 2.75" exhaust pipe for the heater tube. Smallest sheet of 18g i could find was 3'x8' so I won't run out of that any time soon.

Hopefully my media blaster arrives next week. Was expecting it two weeks ago. I want to blast the bottom before I start rebuilding.


Oddly the clutch tube hole is missing but there is an extra hole on the right side. Easy enough to fix.

Built some rollers for the rotisserie so I can easily move the bus around. Even added some paint. Should of had locking casters but these were extremely cheep.

Straightened the rear cross member. Stiffer than it looked. Think someone was off road with it.
Cut the shocks off. Grinder and cutoff wheel and then spread split sleeve.
