I noticed that my passenger tail light brake light and turn signals weren't working must have pulled something loose
I couldn't get it to work so I found a schematic for a 67 Beetle and the colors don't match up
I am fine with the red black and gray that come out of the tail lights on either side but its the connectors that messed up
looking at the schematic
drivers side
red goes into a connector which has a black with white tracer
gray plugs in to a gray with black tracer
Black plugs in the connector and on the other side is red with black there is another wire that goes to the black wire on the passenger side light
on the passenger side of the schematic
Gray goes to a double into single connector the connections are the tail light and the license plate light. out of it comes a single gray with red
Red goes to a black with white tracer
Black goes to a black with red that goes to the drivers side connector
mine is as follows
drivers side
red to black with white tracer
black to black white white tracer
gray to tan?
passenger side
the grey was off and looks to have been spliced with another wire at one time
the red and black go to a connector and I have the choice of
green with black tracer
red with black tracer
white with orange tracer
these three wires are all in shrink wrap together and what was originally plugged into the tail light wires
I also have to single connection plugs both have black with red tracers and both go back to another single plug which has a single black wire going behind the dog house

Drop the wiring diagram available in the tech section ( make shure you go to type 1 diagrams ) on to a flash drive and take it to the office store ;blow it up; laminate it ....start chasing wires...use a dry erase marker on each circuit ...wipe clean after...change wires as needed ...
black wire going behind dog house is probably reverse lights . |
