I just returned to snowy Utah from a family trip to check out the beaches of Puerto Rico. We didn't know what to expect in Puerto Rico, and we are used to camping here, so we had decided to try tent camping on the beach. On our third day there we were driving our little rental Yaris into the beach town on Rincon, looking for somewhere acceptable to set up our tent, when I looked to my left and saw the very familiar and unmistakable sight of 2 Westys with their tops popped up. Of course I pulled a u-turn and pulled into the public beach parking lot and hopped out to say "hola!". Turns out that it was the local VW club out on a weekend get together. I asked if they were camping their in the parking lot and they said "por supuesto!" I couldn't believe our luck! We joined them for the weekend and had a blast hanging out, swimming, cooking and talking Vanagons. there were 6 vanagons, a '72 westy, a 67 splitty westy and 3 very nicely restored bugs. They did it up with great cooking and music and were as warm and friendly as you would expect Westy folk to be. They have a facebook site: t3VanlifePR.

Ahh, tropical island life. It's like being on a different planet. Sounds nice today.

Did you ask them about their Propex installs? :D

I wish there was a ferry from Florida. I would love to drive my westy around the island instead of a Toyota yaris.

I would have loved to have had my Westy! Tent camping from the back of a small car with a family of 4 definitely puts things in perspective. We are pretty lucky to have this unique rig at our disposal for all of the great camping we do in the American west.
