Great weekend with a bunch of great people. More details are on the the Thing Registry Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/VWThingRegistry/

Saturday we left Prado Park and went to the OCTO Bus show in Long Beach.

After OCTO we took a short drive in the rain (yes it does rain in sunny Southern California from time to time) to Seal Beach.

After Seal Beach we cruised down Pacific Coast Highway to Newport Beach for lunch.

And then back to Prado for a group photo. I believe we ended up with 35 or so cars for the pictures, although there were more 181s in the park.

We wrapped up Saturday with a fun pizza dinner in the park. 8)

Sunday is the Prado Park "Show and Shine" with thousands of cars and even more people. The event organizers set up special areas for the Things and Manx owners to display their vehicles at the front of the show area.

The Thing Registry had a raffle with items donated by several vendors.

Eric Goodman summed up the weekend with this post:

"Our THINGS WEST event was a huge success this past weekend. Thank you to everyone who came. We had 52 Things attend. The most Things we have ever seen on the West Coast. It would not have been possible without the help and support from some of our amazing members, Jeff Nall, Jan Skelton Boyd, E Ted Boyd, Lee Caplan, Raymond Huppee, Gina Huppee, Jim Knox, Sam Williams, Chris Conway, Rick Copeland, Birch Price and last but not least, my right hand our VP, Jeff Gilleland."

Who owns the orange Thing in the front of picture number 5 on page four-it has some amber fog lights on top of the front bumber?

Thanks

I will add my 0.02 to the Kudos for the organizers, it was great.

I also have lots of pics of all the Things at Prado and the lunch spot, so I will not add to the confusion. But here are two great pics of my Thing and campsite.

At Pado/Kubeltreffen West, I managed three things.

1) got a passenger side mirror for a 74 Acapulco, it sticks out further, so you can look behind with the side curtains in place.

2) Frank Walling gave me the rubber cover to shield the connectors on my wiper motor

and 3) I was shown by Frank how to hold my Jack in place. I was not aware of the mark on the body that is used to position the moving piece that goes in the jack point, it is top left in the picture.

I had two extra things,
I won the trophy for furthest driven, and in the raffle won a toy car for ,y grandson. Trophy courtesy Jeff Gilleland's 3-D printer.

Some folks who did not make it to Things West 2017 had expressed some interest in seeing all of the 3D Printed awards and the aluminum laser engraved plaques.

In 2017 it was: 1st, 2nd and 3rd, plus Most Original / Stock and Furthest Driven.

In 2018 this may change a little.
One way or the other competition will be stiff because we will have over 100 Things for 2018!

Would there be a class for a off road pre-runner style Thing ?
