Hi, I'm just in the process of doing the interior on my 1968 Ghia and I'm deciding what to do with the colours and dash...
I had the dash painted the same coulour as the car and I'm planning on using the black vinyl cover on the top...
The car is light blue (very close to trout blue) and I think I want to go with red/white interior...
Here's my question...
Has anyone tried painting the black vinyl dash cover? There are special spray paint cans for vinyl seats... Has anyone tried this on one of these Ghia Dash covers?
any input would be greatly appreciated
thanks! |

I used Dupli-Color to respray my old faded dash. It turned out great! I made sure I cleaned it really well with a toothbrush using soap/water, then their pre-paint cleaner, and the adhesion promoter.
Will upload a pic later when I get home. |

I don't think painting would hold up with the sun beating through the window on vinyl.
I think if you want it painted you would be best to use one of the fiberglass caps they make and paint it rather than the padded vinyl cover. |

Are you going to use your original dash top? Are you buying a new one (to paint)?
I think a good quality 2 part automotive vinyl paint will work fine and hold up well even in the sun. I wouldnt go white on the dash top, you will get a lot of glare. If you are buying a dash top to paint, you may want to have it covered in vinyl, it will probably look better that painting. Glass-Action in Arizona makes an inexpensive dash top perfect for re-covering. About $100.
