View original topic: '64 Notch Ignition Switch question
vandyfan13 Wed Dec 14, 2016 10:26 am

I just picked up a '64 Notchback after years of searching (1st VW too) and it's missing the ignition switch and key. MidAmerica has one available, but it's $209 and out of stock, are there any other options/suggestions out there? Thanks. I'll try to post a picture at some point.

Welcome

Throw your mid america catalog away :D they are not the place for type 3 parts, or even good bug parts. mostly junk...

ISP West is the type 3 specialist, other than good used or NOS parts you will find here in the classifieds

same part as MA advertises, only less expensive

please note, this is a reproduction, and not original style. Functionality is good though, and if you are missing the ignition, this is it or find an original

lots of those in the classifieds. added bonus is that you get to keep an original looking key

(type 3's were always 2 key cars, doors and ignition never matched, so at least you won't have that problem)

Thank you, I'll have to get a door key eventually too, but it's down the list of priorities at the moment.....

Not quite... they went to a single key in '67.

Well, that's progress, at least you are admitting they EXIST after '66!

Contact Mario Steinhauser at T3HQ, he's been great to work with.

Yeah i agree
Mario is great for parts
got some hard to find bits for the panelvan from him.

Upon further review, I think I just need the lock cylinder rather than the whole unit because the wiring, etc. is still there, just no key hole.

Also, here are some pics finally.

Late pan? 4 bolt wheels

I haven't been given any information on the pan, just know the VIN number matches the year. I'll be honest too, I wouldn't know how to check the year of the pan.

Lift up the back seat bottom and you should find the chassis number stamped on the wide part of the central frame tunnel there.
