View original topic: Vintage muffler/exhaust tip help on original 57 beetle

Just bought a 1957 which had a beehive oil cooler as well as this muffler tip:

I assume it is a vintage accessory as the car was parked in 1975 and hasn't ran since. Any clues?

it's called a zoom tube

Thanks for the information, I know nothing about these accessories or this era of beetle development as my last car was a 67 that was chopped and screwed so many times I could never match years in it. This 57 is at least numbers matching, but has odd things like this zoom tube and those deluxe wooden bumpers.

nothing odd at all doing that stuff to a used $50 vw beetle back in the day

Don't throw those bumpers away. If you have them tree-ring dated you could find they were made for a Split Window Beetle...very rare. ;)

I'm kinda likin the bumper.
Everywhere you go you can say you've "got wood".
Maybe carve up some wooden overiders and put on a wood slat roof rack. Get a whole lumber theme going!
