Hello guys,

I'm in a hurry getting my bug fixed for some upcoming meetings so I'm trying to avoid the trail & error as much as possible... :D
I'll be mounting a set of early Fuchs (5,5J front, deepsix back) onto my 1960 bug the upcoming days but have a few questions, I hope you can help me out?

- I have converted to discs in the front, what is the advised length of the studbolts to use? Will these work?

- What is the best length to use for bolts? will 33mm work out?

Those are what I use. Depends on the length of your studs. If I remember right they are supposed to go on at least 8 threads.

Two rims looking very much like this showed up in a Swedish add this week. No markings on the rim. I got a pic of them but this site does not like .png-files.

Old post, but not answered.

For future reference, Porsches that came from the factory with Fuchs had wheel studs that extended 30mm from the face of the rotor. To determine what studs you need, measure your rotor's (drum's) thickness and add 30mm.

Many aftermarket studs in the VW world come with a stupid unthreaded part that you will have to cut off to use stock aluminum Porsche lug nuts. The length of that unthreaded bit adds to the complexity of finding out what studs you need.

If that wasn't enough, many parts sellers don't know how to measure the length of a press-in stud. The length should not include the height of the head. And to completely confuse you, they give you the length of metric studs in INCHES!

Quick question. Just to verify the late 911 rims didn't come in a 5 1/2 did they? I have a set of flat 6's and would like to run a set of 5.5 non hearts in front to match them if possible.

You are correct, late Fuchs start at 6" wide.

You could take a pair of late 6s and have them cut down to 5 or 5½" by a competent wheel shop. This would be cheaper than sourcing original 5½s, and they would match your rears.

I have a friend who did the opposite for his fake Speedster. He had a set of 4 flat 6s and he had two of them widened with a 1" spacer on the inside to make them 7" wide, 911R offset. His Speedster is IRS and the 911R wheel is a perfect fit.

No problem. 6" to 4.5" is do-able as well.

I hope you don't mine me hijacking this thread with some additional Fuchs questions.

I have 2 sets of Fuchs wheels that came on my 944s. The ones on my '86 have two small holes in all 4 center caps like this. What are they for?

The center caps on the '83 don't have them.

Also, how rare are the 4.5" and 5.5" X 15" Fuchs? I want to use the wheels from the parts '86 944 on my street Buggy but they are 7" and 8". I want the bigs and littles look so would prefer a narrow one on the front.
