Saw some nice sunflowers on my way to work yesterday and thought they might make a nice picture with my 1983 Mexican Beetle (special edition "Special Bug").

Back from a couple weeks of business travel I gave both these Kozin's a deep cleaning bath. The '02 Boxster usually spends most of its time garaged in Manhattan. Only a good weather car. But with no rain in site I switched the Beetle with it. At least for the next week or two.
Both running strong, well and a pleasure to drive.
Sometimes I catch myself looking for that 5th gear in the Super Beetle which as we all know does not exist, ha.

Actually, it does (tho not by VW). Gene Berg's is generally consider'd best:

It wasn't today, but last week, drove to Florida to see my paralyzed sister. 699 miles to FL (in one day) and 725 miles coming home (in one day) . Saw Steve Boatwright in Brunswick to thank him for fixing the car on the last trip. It's running great.

Nice! I've done a similar trip at least 8 times in my '73 Super, from Arlington to Miami. I've quit doing it in the summer though, the heat is just too much.

Drove it to the Southington Drive-in Car show (Southington, Connecticut) a few days ago.

Yesterday, cruised to the VW Nationals in Hagerstown, MD.

Aside from the drag races, there were some amazing cars, including this incredibly restored 1949 standard. Mind-blowing

We made a nice and sunny excursion with friends and Beetles to the historic city of Schwäbisch Hall in Southern Germany.

Excellent photo! That could be for a VW factory calendar, except for the modern "EU" license plate style.

Did your group stay on secondary roads (Landstrassen), or partly on the Autobahn?

alex857 Mon Aug 18, 2025 1:38 pm

Thanks! In our little parade, we stayed on secondary roads; but the way to our first meeting point was individual.

Hi, I took my 1984 Velvet Red Beetle and showed my beloved Bodensee area to two friends of mine. We had four impressive days on tour with the Beetle.
