Is there an application that can display oil temp/pressure, CHT and engine temp, volt, tach, etc. via a wireless app that can be monitored on an ipad? Bluetooth enabled senders would be cool. Less wires to keep a track of. There are marine applications, but not sure how they'd work on a bus.

This is likely the future, Of all this accessory engine stuff, But I haven't seen anyone bring it together to talk to a cell phone, but there are some hardwire computer apps and some wireless transmitters that go to a box that work's with gages I think.
Interesting stuff:

I have a hard time sending a text message, don't think I would be much help here.

My favorite mobile app:

Leaving my phone out of the driving experience.

If it starts, we have voltage.
If it runs, it's hot.
If we have ears, we can shift.

If it stops? Well that's why VW gave us a gas gauge and an oil pressure light.

Hey, what a coincidence, mine too! :D

There is a distributor that does Bluetooth and that fancy witchcraft. You'd have to find other enabled sensors and build your own thingy. Give it a few years and we'll have it.

I do think it would be nice to have a wireless management system. But then again it would be nice to have a car with electronic suspension, electronic turbos and anot electronic audi logo.

No grease and grime? Don't want any part of it.

Just think how cool it would be to be able to install an oil pressure sensor and not need to wire it to a forward gauge. How cool would it be to do the same for several engine parameters. Not only engine but possibly gps and fuel flow and maybe even air fuel mixture. All this info brought to your display like is pictured. Seems to me that this technology is here and waiting for a market.

I have a cheap OBDll plug in transmitter that talks to my iPhone. I use a free app that gives me all kinds of real time info for my F150 like coolant temp, oil pressure, etc. The technology is already here.

those Bay owners with an OBD-II engine swap are already likely doing just this.
though Skills has a great cluster mod..
the Bluetooth to my phone using Torque app works great, has alerts and data logs (with GPS coordinates if I wanted) so you could see how it performs in the Mtns if you care..

or you can just run a length of 7conductor trailer harness to the front.

It's good to see a few opinions in favor of forward technology. Not necessarily the gadget app aspect, but I like the idea of unlimited tuning capability with the MS products and such. Not that I have a clue how to use that stuff...yet. And as I get nearer to restarting my Bus after a year-plus being down, I'm leary of the 40-plus year old parts that are expected to be super reliable...most notably the AFM and ECU, which seem to be the two most critical pieces which AREN'T being reproduced.

the only data logging I do is for initial break in, or if there is a modification.

my diagnostic equipment allows me to record everything I check off, from injector pulse width, TPS, ECT, fuel trim, etc etc...

I just hit record and then review it later. beyond that, I seldom plug in. a little Dio on the ipod and a hand full of second...the only thing I monitor is how far over the ass end of the bus is in the other lane

When I had spare time I was looking into Arduino based airflow sensors...this looks like a cool Arduino based engine management system.

 Part of the point of me playing with old crap is to escape software, software interface problems, software proprietary issues, software upgrades, software failures, and the cost of software.

Did I mention how much I enjoy software?

The L-Jet is as new as I want to get.

I like to look out the window and enjoy the world passing around me (while also watching for morons texting and not paying attention) vs. staring at a gauge, phone or pad.

My thoughts go to- if our VW engines are built correctly and are well tuned, along with all the preventative maintenance being done, we'll be fine w/out staring at a gauge/s. I don't want the stress and the anxiety gauge watching can provoke.

I believe this is what you are looking for, although the current gauge applications are limited:

Cool! I've been wondering what to get Robbie for his birthday...

I like my Torque app for troubleshooting and general health of my newer vehicles. I used to use a Scanguage for real time diagnostics, but can now go cordless when i need to. Nothing i look at ongoing.

I added a homemade CHT guage and O2 gauge to keep an eye on my type 4 health. I have liked them, but now they are just proving i did it right, not telling me anything new. I am able to connect a laptop to my Innovate software to track if i want to. It was great when i was setting up my AFM
