View original topic: License mounted per Bentley

Im quite curious to know how many early thpe 3s, especially 1500 club cars, have their license plates mounted with 2 boles drilled through the middle, as the Bentley manual shows. My car has original plates mounted this way, and I thought it was incorrect, until looking it up. Cant find many pics of other cars this way.
Im going to have my plates restored, and trying to decide if I want the holes filled.
Would like to hear from others regarding their cars and their opinions

I have a 64S that started life in Germany - it's got two holes in the front apron for the license plate. When I restore the car the two holes will be closed up because Georgia is a "one plate" state.

Is your rear plate mounted with holes through the middle of the plate, or from the mounting holes at the top and bottom of plate?

When I got the car, there were two additional holes drilled in the license plates and a bracket that mounted to the hatch. I swapped the rear bracket out for a front bracket and mounted the rear plate correctly.

The hatch has four holes drilled into it for a top mount of the plate (not sure why) - two of those will be closed up when the car is restored. Technically, you could just mount the plate to the hatch and forego the bracket...I don't have fasteners on the bottom of the plate and it doesn't make noise or rub when the hatch is closed.

This is how my plates are mounted front and back,

and it matches what the Bentley states.
