I am converting my son's '73 Super Beetle from the earlier style front suspension to that later style. I though I had everything I needed until I started installing and discovered I do not have the ball joint pinch bolts (the earlier suspension ball joints do not use a pinch bolt.).

I talked to Jon at Topline to see if he had anything but unfortunately he did not. He did say, however, it's important to NOT have threads where the bolt touches the ball joint, therefore it's best to not simply use a typical M8 bolt. He gave me a good idea on how to make bolts (use 55mm partially threaded M8 bolts, and cut off the excess threads.). Pinch bolts need to be approximately 40mm long. That all said, I am curious if anyone has come up something slick to use for pinch bolts.

Thanks in advance

Ask this guy if he'll pull the bolts off his parts car and ship them to you.

Otherwise what Jon told you sounds about right. Use a longer bolt and cut off the excess.
