Ooof. And ouch. I've always looked forward to where Tunes would take us next and what expression she'd have on her mug when we got there. I've just gone through parts of the threads to enjoy the travels.

Known this day has been approaching for a little while now, expected you would have more time to share with Luna before having to part ways. So very sorry for this news, she meant so much to you and the family. Fondly remember the expeditions with Luna to the abandoned rail line/tunnels above Donner Lake, petroglyph sites and walking off Christmas dinner with her begrudgingly getting acclimated to the new doggy booties.

That said, several of my cars still contain traces of Husky Glitter™ in them, no matter how much vacuuming and cleaning was done. It is quite the tenacious material to encounter. The everlasting reminder of Tunes.

Very, very sorry to hear this news, but grateful for the joy that she brought me and many, many others that have shared her life experiences through this forum. Thank you for sharing her with us and take great care.

I am so very sorry to read of Tunes passing. She will be missed by everyone. My wife had a husky for 17 years and we miss him to this day. Thier lives are far too short, however they give us such joy and love. Each morning when I read the latest posts, I would always look forward to an update on Tunes adventures (and your travels as well!). Thank you for sharing as you have and know Tunes was as much a part of this community as anyone. We will miss her..

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm fortunate to have scratched Tuna's fluffy head a few times and witnessed that big old Husky smile. My heart goes out to you.

RIP Tuna and very sorry for your loss.

I enjoyed reading about your adventures and pray that your sadness will eventually be replaced with the warm, happy memories.

My Father used to say that owning a dog is like buying a car on a balloon loan (remember those?) it's a wonderful experience but you know there is a point in the future where a big payment is due.

This is a collection of the b-roll shots that didn’t make the main “Sanchius and Tuna” thread, along with some repeats of some of my favorite already published pictures, which were worth sharing together and tell their own story.

In Spring 2013 a little Siberian Husky entered our lives.

We had absolutely no idea what was coming.

Luna/Tuna/Tunes/Tunafish rapidly grew and her spirit proved indomitable to the end of her days.

We found ourselves taking her anywhere.

Her favorite place was in the front seat of the Westy where she could see everything.

She played hard and slept hard

And travelled with us as we explored the Colorado front range.

An afternoon in Eldorado Canyon

She always wanted to be part of the action and fought sleep had to not miss anything

This was her favorite place to watch the world go by.

She loved winter and snow

It was a beautiful time.

In Sep 2016, the world changed and not for the better. Luckily, Tunes wasn’t on board.

Westys are such amazing portals to adventure that a core part of my life was missing with the SyncroWesty totaled.
So finding a replacement and getting it back on the road again was a high priority.
Tunes spent a lot of time in the van supervising the rebuild of one nice van from two wrecks.

Soon Tunes was back where she belonged in the new 2wd Westy...

And we were back exploring and spending lazy afternoon in the canyons west of Boulder.

The prairie open space by the NREL wind research lab was another one of our favorite places to hang out.

We lived just below this hilltop and would walk Tunes up here every day where each sunset was different.

We loved living in Colorado.

In 2018, a cool work opportunity took us to Reno Nevada and we quickly grew to love it too.

It has many similarities to the Colorado front range, but with 1/10 the number of people.

And the Savannah Beige Metallic paint seemed to blend into the desert just right.

The deserts just east of Reno were a big draw for me and exploring the hills for ancient petroglyphs

With the Sierra Nevada mountains just 45 minutes away to the west, they also became a goto place for escape.

We never met a train we didn’t like

We loved getting out with the wild horses, we took to calling them Tuna's "Mustang buddies."

And exploring the surrounding deserts and mountains

Things were never too busy to stop by our favorite microbreweries

Lake Tahoe was a gem..

Northern Nevada was simply spectacular and we made the most of it.

In 2022 another cool opportunity took us to Indiana where we started exploring the woodlands and river valleys and enjoying a slower Midwest pace of life.

When we first discovered the hard lump on Tuna’s rear leg, we immediately had it biopsied. The news was bad and our choices were worse. We could amputate the leg and put her in chemo, but with absolutely no guarantee of recovery. We had walked this heroic path years before with a magnificent yellow Lab and pledged to never put another dog through that hell again. So, we had a last few weeks with Tunes, usually sitting out on our big front porch with her watching the world go by, as the cancer roared through her like a wildfire.

First, it took her ability to run, then she couldn’t climb stairs anymore, and finally, walking was becoming painful. Before it completely took her dignity, we made the call and took her on one last outing...

...before gently sending her on beyond the pain.

The saddest sight… Mrs S said that it wouldn’t hurt if we didn’t care and I guess we must have cared a lot.

But life goes on. We joined the neighborhood’s traditional Independence Day celebration, we’re planning flights west to see the new grandson, but we are finding it hard to be festive yet. Too much to work through still. A huge bright spot has been sharing these adventures with you here on TheSamba.

Although she’s gone now, I will always remember her this way, cruising down the road together to a new adventure with her nose on the window sill taking in every scent, her eyes half closed against the sun, and her little husky ears flapping in the wind.

With this, it is time to close out the “Sanchius and Tuna ride again” thread and see where life takes us next…

There is nothing like a good faithful dog!

When I lost my Golden of 14 years I cried like a baby.

Now we have this new pup...... while he is no Grover he is growing on me,
I ran some errands today without him...... the car felt empty........

Maybe in 14 years..... I'll cry again.
