Needing a battery; wondering if anyone has used a grp 91. Same ht and width as the grp 41 just 9/16 shorter in length. The brand I'm considering is 700cca.

Why not? That's plenty of amps for starting battery in all but extended extreme cold conditions...

OTOH, why? Got a special deal you want to share...???

No special deals unfortunately. Just looking at options to the grp 41 for easier fit and wondering if anyone else in the community has used a grp 91 battery.

I just replaced my battery with a interstate mt-96. I haven't had any issues and it's a little shorter.

Resurrecting a thread from a few years ago...

In the last couple years I've bought two Group size 41 batteries from Pep Boys. Bosch brand and after something like a 20% discount special they were under $100 each. (For two different vans about 1 year apart. Both still doing fine.)
However Pep Boys no longer carries Bosch and I've been browsing other brands an sellers.

I came up with this list of Group Sizes and dimensions, that would seem to fit in the space of the original Group 41 battery:

Length Width Height
40R
10-15/16" --- 6-7/8" --- 6-7/8"
41
11-3/16" --- 6-7/8" --- 6-7/8"
90
9-11/16" --- 6-7/8" --- 6-7/8"
91
11" --- 6-7/8" --- 6-7/8"

At Oreilly Auto Parts, they have their "SuperStart Premium" batteries offered at the same $144.99 price:
41
650 CCA --- 815 CA --- Part# 41PRMJ
91
700 CCA --- 860 CA --- Part# 91PRM

Photo of the Group 91 shows the + and - terminals on the proper sides like the Group 41. The 91 should be a little easier to get in/out of the box with tiny bit shorter length, plus the photo also shows it has HANDLES! :D

Anyone tried either of these?

Anyone want to recommend another brand or seller of starting battery, without getting into a big dual batteries, solar charging system discussion?

Thanks!

There is also T5. 9-1/2 x 6-7/8 x 6-7/8
That’s the size I’m running. Learned of here on TheSamba!

IIRC a T65 crosses exactly to a Group 41. Doesn't mean its available though. Sounds like a Group 91 is very close to a T6.

For those in Les Schwab land, they can still provide a Group 41 with a 7 years prorated warranty. Bought a lot of Les Schwab batteries over the years and don't think I have ever lost one during the warranty period.

Interesting learning about battery size numbers...

I hadn't previously saw that "T numbers" were also sizes. I figured were some other description and that if they had the Group number, then a T number relating to size would be superfluous. Seems you can's have too many numbers to describe the same size. Pretty soon they'll make this as complex as women's clothes sizes!

The ones I'm looking at are described like this:
Group Size 41 / T65
Group Size 91 / T6

Another website site seems to equate Group 90 with T5, but not explicitly.

I put a T6 or Group 91 in my van. It has a nice handle that folds down flush so your battery door closes properly. Also with the shorter length, I used a bolt extender which will give me more room for connections. I also cut a block of wood, placed down low to help keep it in place.

I bought mine from an Advanced Auto back in March and it was called an Autocraft Gold. When I search the store now, it shows they are calling it a DieHard Gold.

Our van when purchased had one of the O'Reillys Super Start Group 41 in it, 2009. It was still doing ok after 11 years this spring of 2020 when I replaced it with same, just due to age and a fresh rebuilt engine as I wanted to make sure the battery would cause no issues during initial cranking and break-in.

The 41 has the strap type plastic handle, I just cut handle in the center and the ends can slide down, easy enough to pull them back up for battery removal.

I just replaced mine with a Duracell Grp 41 from Batteries Plus. Better warranty than the others (24 months free replacement, non prorated), and $124.99 (normally, had 10% off coupon sale at the time so even cheaper) vs $149.95 for Autozone, NAPA, and O'Reilly.

GreggK,

I've done a little searching for a bolt extender like this, but seem to only find ones with male on both ends or ones to adapt from side connection batteries.

Where did you get this?

Thanks!
