OK all you Deluxe gerus and bus experts can you help me answer or even figure this out
I have the M-code plate off of a deluxe I will get one of these days (still back east). The bus is a 64 deluxe, black on black with a 2 tone gray (none mesh) interior looks original as all the chrome trim is there and the rubber kick panel on the bulkhead
here is the m-code plate
22 5
425 027 081 114 204 530
UV 2513 524001 1303171
This bus is all black, I even took the id tag off the overhead vent, the m-code plate and looked everywhere I could to see if repaint and could not tell any signs of repaint anywhere. Even under the panels were all black |

It could be original as the M code says the colour is a special option. I can't find any more details anywhere so thats all i can tell.
I put it into VintageBus.com and this is what it gave me..

When I first saw it I wouldn't consisder it. BUT NOW, with the way prices are it is a very doable bus, plus being black on black with a 2 tone gray interior ought to be cool, or hotter then hell in az. There is also a 57 SC there complete both bumpers (I tried to buy just the bumpers and now the rear is worth more then he is asking for the whole bus)and a few more splits, deluxes and standerds, no commercials? seems weird.
There are still a couple early 50's bugs, bodys decent but the pans are shot.
I now kind of regret cutting a few roofs off and stripping a few buses while I was there, but times have changed and stuff that was once parts buses are now restorable treasures |

Eric and Mark posting pure VW porn this morning. Factory all black Deluxes do something for me. I like uncommon color buses.
This '65 with 524001 paint code shows up to Blackstar.
There was a Black Deluxe that Lind and Greg took pics of in a junkyard years ago with como green interior. Talk about an Andes Creme mint! Have we seen a factory Black kombi or standard? |

The deluxe that we found in the junkyeard in Michigan was the same one that Ronnie cut the roof off of. Funny thing, we found it two months after Ronnie posted about it. We were just driving down a random road and saw a VW wrecking yard. As far as I know, it is still there. It has been more than a decade since I was last there.
As to your question, I have seen pictures of what I believe was a factory black barndoor standard with deluxe trim. I think it got scrapped in Tennessee in the '90s. |

For some reason I thought it had a como green interior. It sounds like its still waiting for Ronnie to pick it up one of these days. |

I posted a thread in the Barndoor section about the acquisition of a Kombi to be used by a school district to transport disabled students and California's law that is still on the books, Government Code 4301 that provides that the CHP or any governmental entity may buy materials from foreign sources if U.S models are not of the type desired. I wonder what the CHP used the double cab for that was unique? |
