As I was walking by the buses outside the show I over heard Mr. Retro saying that he paid something like ten thousand for it. And he was sick and tired of people approaching him and asking about the bus!!! I just mentioned what I over heard. That is all!!! I was just curious as to which bus this guy was talking about??? That is all. I could give a RATS ASS what he paid for it!!!! I just wanted to know which bus it was?

Ev,

I thought Drew and Brett sold Tom's 53 back and forth a time or two?

If it is the Jeff Keller bus, that thing was a swamp dweller, when Jeff pulled it out. How much work has been done to it over the years?

That I do not know. Drew's Bus is much nicer than this '53.

I was told the Bus was previously owned by Jeff Keller.

I didn't look at it too closely as it was blocked in by other cars when I saw it but it had some possibly scary areas - driver's dogleg, rockers, driver's door, etc.. They were all lumpy and knowing the "treatment" that was done to Jeff K.'s Binz, I figured the same applied in this case.

It was very complete and the front and rear floors looked pretty good from what I could see. The belly pans has a couple small holes but I couldn't see everything. I was mostly concerned with what could be seen on the exterior.

I saw it at Danny's shop when I was picking up some other parts. I wasn't there as a potential buyer. Danny stated he was selling it for Brett as they were friends.

53 deluxe...
when i met gibbs and mr mafia at sandown i never mentioned $10,000 if i paid that i think i would have every right to say i stole it from under your noses..... i paid well over double that amount..well over...(and the exchange rate was crappy at that time as well) it took nearly a month of hard talking and pain in the ass calls etc to complete the deal, and at no point untill i sent the money was i sure of getting my dream bus.......

yes dream bus,at the moment it still isnt here.and belive me when it arrives i will be happier than most of you will appreciate ... sad to say apart from my wife my world is vw busses,i race em,drive em build em and sell em.... talk shit about them and generally would rather have a bus in my life and live on the streets than no bus at all!!if that makes me trippy.im not about to change!

the bus was brett barberies.... i did buy it through danny last november/december.....i was told of other interested parties in the bus..and all i could do was wait and hope it would go through ...obviously it did and i am stoked ......(motor and trim etc are all with it )

all the speculation on here doesnt really suprise me that much, after all no one gossips like a vw person :lol: but in some cases its hard to see where the opinions come from !

now heres the dielemma.... i would normally have slammed the 53, dropped a 200hp motor and a decent box into the thing, shoved some burners on it and raced the crap out of it..... thing is i appreciate what this bus is...and all the reasons why i shouldnt do that.so stock it will stay
and if this makes me a wanker.then a wanker i will be forever ;)

anyway i still have my 62 23 to race ricers in :D

I am not upset at all about this bus going over to England! I don't care! I was just curious to know which bus you were talking about?? I didn't care for the comment about "snatching the bus from under the Barndoor Mafia" or something to that sort..........We NEVER owned that bus!

And I am really pissed off (not drunk!) at the publication for that derogatorive remark about Mexicans!! And this cop out about pointing the finger stuff is crap! I am in the media and publication business, not everthing is fabricated by the editor, Most to the stuff writen is by the writer.

And this is not about Brits & Yanks! There are DICK HEADS everythere! BUT, you can't go telling everyone that Mexicans are beaners and their old ladies are fat ass's! FUCK THAT! That is not cool at all!!!!!!!!

This Player does need metal work. But it is a nice bus!

The Volksworld comment about these Mexican guys is completely out of order.

:roll: i am referring to bus racer who seems to think i have some sort of agenda against your country... on page 5 he quotes part of the article i wrote... then goes on to describe the context incorrectly..... why not simply copy the article and let everyone decide for themselves.....

it was written in a magazine that covers the whole spectrum of vw owners...it was written in a jovial tongue in cheek manner and basically stated you dont need to know each and every part number or paint code to be a valued and worthwile asset to the vw community..

and if you cant agree with that....

then it cited the example of vw tedium mr bus racer disapproves of so much .........

anyway ...i love busses i do :D

Just should have said his name then, American is not a descriptive word.

I used to buy Volksworld but not anymore, heck I don't buy any VW magazines for that matter. The reason I used to buy Volksworld is because I think they did a better job of covering the US shows, way better than the US mags. They would show the non shiney buses.

Ooh this is getting nasty.

I realy don't beleive mr retro would have added the snatching comment on that article he doesn't strike me as a guy who would try and antagonise people unnecessarily. Even if he did it really isn't something to get worked up about.

It seems a lot of good early cars leave the uk / europe to the USA so it makes a change to see a barndoor coming back this way.

Can't wait to see the bus on the road in stock form, a rare sight for the uk barndoor 23 window brigade. Good on ya for percivering and getting your dream bus. :wink:
