Not to Hijack this thread, but living in the UK for the past 6 years my family and I have grown extremely tired of the Love/Hate thing the British have going for America/Americans/American Things etc.

In my opinion, the love to hate us and hate that they love us. I have lived all over the world and never in my travels have I ran into a group of people so concerned with anything American. From the Newspapers to the Radio to the Television they are constantly worrying what is going on in America. It is odd to say the least.

At least in Japan, they know that they love Americana and they embrace it. In France, they don't like Americana and they will let you know it. The UK is confused about their feelings towards Americana, but they know there is something there...

I cannot wait to get back to the Good Ole USofA, it has been too long and too long without my bus. No offense to anyone British is meant by this post, it is just my observation and opinion.

Cheers, Have a nice day!

this hasnt been my experience at all. i'm pretty sure they see their bus scene as their own and see the US as a good supply of cheap buses.

let's not turn this into another useless rants style world politics thread

Quote: "Lardy beaners love cerveza and lowriders".

that is so friggin funny you remember that! i cant even say how wierd it is you came up with that. ill never forget that one and ive never met anyone that knew what the hell i was talking about. how bizarre. what a misunderstanding of a nother culture...like mexican guys enjoy being called beaners...and lardy to boot. i was going to quote that when i first wrote but i was sure nnone would know what i was talking about and what makes it even wierder is that two days ago i randomly picked up a back issue to read and it happened to be that same issue.

i dont know g ,from my experience id have to lean towards sarge's observation. always some conflict going on...love hate thing. i really dont care but when you constantly read it then it becomes apparent. but i guess you cant judge a scene by what a few people write. id guess that sarge having lived there for 6 years hes probably got a much broader view of things.
yeah maybe we are just bus whores to them ...that fucking kieft and klock place is straight up outta control with their bus prices. its kind of a shame that dry buses are going to such a shitty climate. oh well...just tell those fuckers to leave the fire trucks and ambulances alone!

Rusting Hulk Mon Apr 05, 2004 7:17 am

Kieft and Klok is in The Netherlands, they just price their buses in £ because the UK is paying the most for buses at the moment, i have to admit that the weather is bad in holland too.

Am i getting the jist that you guys are 'pissed' because another BD Deluxe is coming to the UK

NorCalWeekender Mon Apr 05, 2004 7:41 am

I'm not pissed by it...I know we've imported enough BDs from Europe and the UK to make up for it. :) Although, I find it really funny to see the Kieftenklok adverts every month if only to see if I recognize any of the buses...those guys snatch up CA buses like they're those little chocolate gold coins.

Dude, I have that old issue of Volksworld. It shows the mexican dude with his old lady chillin' on the grass drinking a beer by his skirted slammed blue oval rag. Caption called them lardy beaners. I showed it to everybody from the GFK at Copperstate because they didnt believe I was telling the truth. That was way outta line!
Shit, I didnt know that was Jeff Kellers BD 23 you ended up with. That was a local Ft Worth Barndoor Deluxe too. All I know is that Brett's ol lady is hot to trot. I see her flirtatious ass on TV bright and early every morning.

UZI Mon Apr 05, 2004 7:51 am

well apparently retro steve was right when he said he "ripped it out from under the yanks" i still dont believe he paid $10Gs.

my experiences are first hand with the bus people there. i've been to the UK 4 times in the past year. everyone has always been cool to me. i've been cool with them. i suppose if i walked around being "tired of the love/hate relationship" with the brits then it would be hard not to come off that way.

unfortunately for us, their currency is stronger. so when buses like the mercury bus, the jiffy bus and barndoor deluxes head off to the UK, you know they will never be back. all of those buses sold for reasonably money too.

i can't see how threads like this and the critical comments such as those above directed at people's country of origin can lead to any good.

I don't think there is any of that me against you crap between the Brits and 'Mericans I have a great relationship with Ritchie King and Julian Hunt and have made a new friend with Keith Usher as he was just over for our new NEATO show in Bakersfield and was my right hand man in helping run the campout and show. When Ritchie and I had dealings with the 54 DLX he said how much it was and I said How can I pay for it as I didn't want it to escape my grasp! Ended up charging it on my AmEX Card to lock up the deal. Every country has Jack Asses and Bottom Feeders maybe it's these clowns that can't get along, but then again I wouldn't want to hang with them either!!!!!

Yeah! I remember that issue, too! Don't think I have it anymore, but I was blown away that they said that!

very true. i think retro steve like anyone would be stoked to have a darndoor deluxe. "ripping it out from under the yanks" and pay "$10Gs" for it may be in the category of embellishment. remember, there is a fine line between a good story and a bold faced lie. most people like a good story, especially when it involves an early deluxe.

I remember when I was a kid in school the teacher would line everyone up and say something in the first kid in lines ear. He in turn would wisper the phrase to the next kid and so on and so forth. When the last kid in line would say the phrase it had nothing to do with the original one the teacher whispered in the first kids ear and everybody laughed, more than likely what's going on in this instance!

gibbs, nobody is going to be mean to someone who shits dollar bills the way you do... no matter what country they're from!

Yeah Gibbs!

Barndoor Mafia Mon Apr 05, 2004 9:00 am

Well, I think that is really fucked up they, Volksworld, allowed that comment to be made!!!! I will NEVER read or open their shitty magazine! I would have loved to run into the asshole who wrote it while I was out there!!!

And I am sorry for stirring up this thread. I just wanted to know which bus this character bought? Now I know, but it seems very strange that he paid so cheap for that, especially who the broker was!!! And you know he is not cheap!!!! And he knows what people are paying for BD 23 window's???

Well, if this retro character really did pay that much for it, good for him. And I don't give a rats ass that it went to the UK.............

Steve does post here. He also does have some great contacts in the US. He also has a flair for finding the right thing at the right price. You are better off hearing from him rather than speculating ;) I am looking forward to seeing his barndoor at soon as it gets here. Looks like I am meeting him tonight actually. He is currently restoring our bus and doing a great job.

palmerj Mon Apr 05, 2004 9:27 am

First off I'm British!! And yes, I do have the smile to prove it (British dentists suck... Only kidding).

Please guys, I am sure there are wankers in the US too! No-ones immune! Don't let it tarnish what I consider to be good friendly contacts on both sides of the big swim!

As for the lardy beaners thing, I remember the issue you're on about, and to be honest just did not understand it. Is this something that some people are called (beaners?). Its clearly offensive, I just wonder if the person who wrote it knew that it was offensive, you know the old a little knowledge is a bad thing saying. He may have overheard it and just piped it out without ever thinking about it, case of ignorance. I for one don't know what it means, who it refers to or anything! However, you're right, thats the kind of thing you need to CHECK if you're going to sell a mag to the general public. And if he knew it was offensive (I say he but I don't know who wrote it.. Could've been a lady I suppose...) then as you say its just bang out of order.

Anyway, lets all stay friends eh? long live the VW community no matter where the hell you're from!

Just my two penneth...

DID NOT fancy his remark he made about snatching the bus from under us. We never owned that bus??? He is making us famous by mentioning us. If he got that bus at the price he claims.............good for him! :)

heres a pic from the volksworld article.

Quote: "tired of the love/hate relationship" gibbs if your trying to quote me than get it right. i only know what i read and what my few business relationships have been with certain uk sellers/buyers. you dont have to play it like someones trying to promote some anti uk thing if i was trying to do that then id just print some lyrics from the old punk band The Faction....ih wait i guess ill just do that for a laugh

FACTION LYRICS

"A-U.K."

A little island way far away
That's loved and admired in the U.S.A.
England's scene is cool for them
But here it just creates a bunch of problems
People here wear circle A's
Right beside it the flag of the U.K.
Circle A no government that's quite clear
So what's the Union Jack still doing there?
A-U.K. means anti-U.K.
United Kingdom go away
Remember you live in the U.S.A.
England's stale anyway
I don't care what Wattie says
Fuck the U.K. that's what I say
They're just jealous they can't see
What in the world is the S.P.G?
Dump on the Irish for 800 years
Can't they see they're not wanted there?
Australian fields red with blood
Their English masters had to have guns
Their scene's divided by the punks and skins
We are united, always will
Phoney division made by our underground press
That we too are divided and we're in distress
Some English groups aren't even bands
They sound like a bunch of pots and pans
Cry about a war that doesn't exist
Americans are hated, we still persist

ive always said volksworld is my favorite the writing for the most part is hilarious and entertaining. they build some crazy cars too (and some hideous ones as well). just the same as anywhere else. im not however kissing anyones ass because i have some biased opinion. do i care if that deluxe went over there...nope. economy's change and so do collectible car markets. your dream bus is only a boat ride away.
