Hi Gang,
Working on my first bug and I pulled the motor a few weeks ago to replace the main seal, no problem. I got the motor back in last weekend and didn't realize that one of the valve covers came loose during install. The next morning there was a puddle of oil under the car of course.
I went out and bought some motor oil to top it off, but checked the dipstick first and the level looks fine. I'm confused..lol. Does that oil in the valves get filled somewhere else?
Thx!

a little spilled oil goes a long way. |

It was a pretty big puddle, so I was surprised to see the dipstick show that it's right where it should be.

I've done that before too and the dipstick looked unchanged. |

In other words, the little puddle was most likely not as much oil as it appeared to be. |

A 'pretty big' shallow puddle doesn't contain much volume, especially with a viscous liquid that doesn't just disappear. Even 4 oz can make quite a mess. |
