I use 2 of the cheap plastic fuel filters on my car; under the tank & just before the engine room.
The one one the right was under the tank
Obviously I have a pretty rusty fuel line.
What can I do now, to delay the inevitable replacement? |

It may be coming from the line, or the tank. Pull the sending unit and shine a flashlight in there to see what the bottom looks like. |

Maybe take an old throttle cable,
Fray the end up a bit,
Chuck it up in a drill,
And run it thru the line?
Then flush it with carb cleaner and compressed air..
Should knock all of the scale loose,
But keep an eye out for leaks afterward.. |

A clutch cable is the perfect size and its firm enough to just use your hand. |

Then hit it with some Berryman's B-12 or their carb cleaner. I'd flush it a couple of times, then change the rear filter a couple of times until it stays clear. This is 1 of the reasons I like to have a filter along side the transaxle, as it collects rust and junk in the line (especially if the car has been under construction).
Since you have a 68, the clutch cable will fit it just fine. You might want to do the return line as well, then cap both ends of it, in case you need it someday. |
