Just curious why everyone is hot on these 6.70 15s when the original stock tire was a 6.40-15 and is readily available.

Is this some sort of reverse lowering fad or something?
I think 6.40-15s look absolutely perfect in a bus...the 6.70s
start looking "clownish" to me.

KrisBalfe Tue Mar 31, 2009 6:54 pm

Oh no they aren't stock.... what if someone finds out
Because they are a great tire

Looks fine to me princess...

I actually like the look of both sizes. I have to see what the deal is with the tires i have when i get the bus back. someone told me that with the 1500cc engine i have and the small nut tranny in there, if i go 6.70's it will help a bit? true??

6.40's on the left and 6.70's on the right

everyone is hot on them? I think there are far more people running radials and 6.40's than 6.70's. There have just been some people getting them and liking them lately. fuck...a 6.70 looks one thousand times better than a stupid balloon radial anyday anyway. Do you have 6.40's on all your buses? not picking a fight, just wondering.

a little extra tire size is not bad. I would rather see a slightly larger tire than a 6.00-15 . With a big nut transmission and these tires, my freeway cruising will be perfect at about 63/64 mph @ 3500 rpm.

Being a current tire, Can you get them at a goodyear dealer instead of Coker?

sled Tue Mar 31, 2009 7:07 pm

yes, getting them from goodyear was the cheapest method for me. I dont think they are available from coker. Getting them from Discount or Les Schwab (or wherever) will be more costly due to price markups.

6.70's werd...

Theyre Goodyear Traction Hi-Miler 6.70-15 6 ply LT rated bias plys. badass tire...a bit larger than 6.40-15 stock, and definately heavy duty enough for a bus. I talked with the goodyear guy when I picked them up and he said expect 40,xxx miles or maybe even slightly more being that they will be on a bus (2400-2600 lbs) and not the 3000lb + trucks they're made for. Coker makes 6.70-15's, but I went with these because they have a higher rating, and being that they are a current production tire and not a reproduction I thought they might be better.

some other folks have them including vw7266, hughseum, krisbalfe, ebuscopaulian to name a few.

no radial will ever compare in the aesthetics department

What did those set you back? I called around for a set and couldn't find thm for what I thought was a reasonable price.

I got them for 125.95 each mounted with no valve stems. (cheaper than coker tires) unfortunately they could not balance them so I will have to take them to another local shop I know that can spin them

It would be interesting to see buses with 6.40s and 6.70s side-by-side for a comparison.

vw7266 Wed Apr 01, 2009 10:03 am

i gots mine for $105

Took me a lil while to get used to driving on them...I only really noticed a difference on rain covered roads....never drove in the snow/ice with them

great tires. long lasting, well wearing. load range F, high pressure.
you can find these, sometimes, at uhaul depos, because uhaul uses these on older tow dolly and single axle trailers. they're available from goodyear with fresh dot numbers. plus, you can run portawalls on these with no problems, and they look 'correct'. they're going on my 65 volvo, because i can get them cheap at work. btw, i work at a goodyear tire store, so i see these on the uhaul trailers and see the wear patterns.
oh and about radials, are those early bus wheels approved for radial tires? just sayin
