So, Ive been lurking about having all my many questions answered here for a long time now, but have never been able to contribute anything. In the last couple of days Ive been trying to get my generator to work. Well, as many have experienced the brush springs like to break and apparently there are not replacements available, unless you have an old generator laying around, which I didn't. So when this happened to me, well I figured I was screwed, but then I had an idea. Although I don't have any generators laying around, I did have an extra carb. I so I came up with this made from the choke spring. It was very easy to make as well as put in (Bottom side with gen. still mounted). It worked like a charm. Now for a legal disclaimer. The dam generator still didn't work, so I have not had the opportunity to test this spring under real conditions. Considering that it is made to flex when hot kinda makes me wonder if that's exactly what it will do when it gets hot. As well which way will it flex, tighter or looser? So in conclusion, if anyone has all ready posted this before, then sorry for the repeat, like I said just hoping to contribute for once.

Nice- but--- it's a bi-metal spring that moves when it heats up- your results might vary- according to temp.
edit-- also- the spring tension is very specific to the arch of the brush- wron pressure can wear out the brush prematurely. Or not enough could cause arching which would not be good either. |
