View original topic: Jeremy's neverending 56 beetle resto

I bought this beetle in Vacaville, Ca back in 1997. It has been through a few transformations since i have owned it and it has helped me learn metal and bodywork. I will finish it one day. I keep starting other stuff and putting it on the back burner but I am saving up for the next big step which is prep and paint. I plan on showing this car so I want it nice. Follow the thread and see if I ever get it done. :D
This is the day I brought the beetle home.

I got a 40hp and a 36hp with it but sold the 36hp.

I immediatly tore the car apart(ever further than it was)

I put the 40hp back together and got it running

I drove it like this for a few weeks.

The 40hp seized one day for some unknown reason and I decided to put a 68 tranny and a 1600cc in.

I did some clearcoating and put some chromies on it. Like those flared fenders? They are the original fenders. What a shame.

Just before moving to Va in 1999 I put in a adjuster beam and replaced the flared fenders abd started doing some of the metal work.

In 2000 I started strripping the paint and straightening stuff out and then I primed it and drove it for a few months in primer. I then started the heavy resto stuff. I cut the roof and welded in a donor section from a 58 beetle. I did most of the bodywork and itch primed it and it has been sitting for a year now because I have been working on other projects including the 59 deluxe bus. After I get the bus going I plan on getting back on the 56.

This was the donor car for the rag section

The bus is slowly coming together.

Carl, the beetle in the woods was the donor for the rag section. All the other pics are the same car.

Very impressive Jeremy. Seeing people working on their VW's gives me hope for mine and what I can do to keep mine alive. Speaking of which, are you still in the process of building a front cabin floor kit for type II's??

I haven't had time lately between working on the bus, building towbars and helping friends with their buses. Kelly Brown is making them though.
