| Getting 77 convertable back from paint. Body is on frame but everything else needs re-assembly. Seats, hood, trunk lid, fenders, carpet, windshield, etc. I'm looking for a step by step manual or something for reference. Is there anything out there to help this newbie? |

| There is only basic, non specific type of info. Did you take the car apart? Just put it back together. I would do all the fenders/doors,etc, first. Save interior for last. Pay for what you cant do, like maybe the top. For specific questions, ask. Somebody here has done it before. Take your time and pay attention to your work and tools. Good luck |

The only real rule of thumb I have...and ir varies with type or VW a little bit...but doors go on first. Set the top gap, rear gap and bottom gap and make sure the striker plate and latches are adjusted...and that your trim lines door to rear quarter panel are straight.
Then the front fender. Set the gap to door....after setting the in/out distance with fender washers and fender welting. Bolt up tight. Then carefully open the door to check for binding.
The door is much harder to adjust. Its heavier. Its easier to move the fender.
Then put on the front hood....and adjust hinges for fit to fenders....front and side gaps and if it has enough crush on the gasket. Ray |
