I'm only familiar with the dog house style cooler set up. Do the non-dog house coolers also require foam seals around the edge of the cooler to force air to the cooler or was it designed to let some air bypass the cooler? Helping a friend set up his engine correctly.

No Foam, no Hoover bit. The cooler simply stands in the path of air, what gets around it instead of thru it is minimal, and goes to the head and cylinder and likely keeps the # 3 head from getting a even hotter that it does if all of its air was 100% preheated by the oil cooler.
