| Thinking about installing a steering shaft lock on my Oval. Apparently there's a ring that goes on the steering shaft to accommodate the lock pin. Has anyone done this and what did you do for the shaft portion. I can find some locks, but don't know what to do for the shaft parts. Thanks... Jeff |

If you purchase a NOS steering lock kit, the kit will contain either (2) semi-circular ‘shell’ pieces or a collar that will require you to weld onto the shaft. You can see these ‘shell’ pieces in the pic (located on the top & bottom Right side corners) shown below in the box-
This is the locking collar for 1960-later cars-
When the ‘shells’ are installed, there will be gap in between the pieces. This gap is where the locking pin will reside. Here’s a pic of these pieces installed. Gap is not visible in pic in the first pic. Gap is located at the top & bottom. Second pic has the gap visible
The kit will also require the user to create an oblong hole (for the locking pin to pass through) in the steering column. Like this-
Lastly, the metal ‘shells’ will work on all years. Whereas, the metal collar will only work on 1960-later steering shafts. This is because Pre ‘59 shafts have a flare on the end of the shaft and the collar cannot fit through |

I am ready to install a similar locking mechanism. Does anyone know of a source to purchase or make the rubber gasket between the tube and locking unit?
Thanks
