"The original idea for the T1 van or Volkswagen Type 2 came from the Dutch Volkswagen importer Ben Pon, who drew the first sketches of the van in 1947."
Ben Pon lived and worked in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. There is still a lot of Volkswagen history out here and that's why Amersfoort is the perfect location to bring, as many as possible, Barndoor buses together!

Participating vehicles:
- VW Barndoor Buses until 03/1955 on the main square!
- Volkswagen Type 2 / Splitbuses up to 1967
- Volkswagen Beetles, KdF-Wagen up to 1957
- Type 128 and 166 VW Schwimmwagen
- Type 82 VW Kübelwagen 1940 - 1945
- Coachbuilt bodies on a VW chassis up to 1967
- Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 14 up to 1959
- Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Type 34 up to 1969
- Volkswagen Type 3 1500 + 1500S up to 1965

Oh man, we received over 50 Barndoor bus registrations already!! Amazing, can we beat that record from 2014...?!?

I arrived at late Friday evening to amersfort. Can I drive directly at the camping area ( I got cards ;-) or I must wait till saturday morning? Thx!

So all Barndoor-infested roads lead to Amersfoort in Holland this weekend...looks like it's going to be a good one

What an EPIC weekend! The 2nd European Barndoor Gathering & Vintage VW Show aka the Ben Pon Show brought together a total of 105 Barndoor buses over the weekend and set a new World-Record of 102 Barndoors on-site on May 19, 2018!
THANKS to everyone who attended, supported, volunteered, sponsored, and visited the show. Much love goes out to the complete BDG2 Crew and my beloved family and wife Marieke for their eternal support and trust!

Here's my 360 video walk-around of the show on Sunday, when the sun came out. You can aim the view with your mouse or touch screen, and pause to look around in detail. What a great show, and a perfect venue. I start at one of the two camping areas, and finish in the Barndoor area. Find your favorite bus!

Watching the video, I found the lack of the typical loud obnoxious 80’s butt rock classy and refreshing. Maybe it’s just a US thing, but every show here it’s a constant worry that you’ll get parked next to one of the speakers

I'm afraid not.......happens in UK as well at some gatherings. I have been lucky not to be too near the source but I couldn't stand it if I was next to one. I love music I really do but I love the peace n quiet of the countryside and I like to keep the two separate.
