I was looking for a thread that showed the proper way to prep & paint the Westfalia top. Sanding, primer & paint. I want to keep it orginial, so white it will stay. I also will be using the top for cargo. If there is a good, just point me to it! Thanks.. |

Use the search. There are a dozen examples of dubsters refurbishing the poptop right down to recovering the underside with that flocking material.
Its not really rocket science. The choice of paints appears to be interlux bright sides and they have a scratch coat that goes along with it. Might be called precoat.
If you want a deal on a few quarts of the stuff PM me. Ive got three gallons of the white paint and the precoat. Happy to send em off to you.
Basically its a scrub, sand, prime, sand paint, sand and paint again process. The sanding makes a big diff in how it grabs and the final smoothness of your top. New decals can be bought from Go=westy i think.
Search it. There are more than we can count.
Heres one that more than covers the subject w/o the regular characters getting into a pissing match.

Its a rewarding project. Get new seals too. Makes ur van look new from the top. Yeah, basically just from the top. LOL. |

One correction to *any* repaint process on fiberglass...
First step: Wax & Grease Remover! And again as the last step before any primer and/or paint.
Happy Holidays. |
