I'd like to hear from anyone who has installed and used electric pre-heat on their manifold in place of exhaust pre-heat. My manifold heat risers are cut off, and I'd like to know if electric motorcycle hand grip warmers are practical. How well do they work? I don't want to pay for a used (clogged) manifold as I have a header without pre-heat connections. HELP! |

I cant imagine those are going to get hot enough to do any good, might be wasting your money. I see refurbished manifold center sections at SoCal Auto Parts for around 80.00, or buy used and unclog it. I would try to use what VW designed. |

I cant remember who but someone posted up here about electric heat wrap, you wrap your manifold with it and wire it up. They said it worked good for them. |

The problem that you'll run into with an electrically based system, is available electrical power. The 12 volt heaters generally develop less than 5 watts of heating power. https://www.mcmaster.com/heat-wrap I suppose you could just wrap the entire manifold with them but they're $30 to $40 each!
It might be easier to weld on some nipples to your exhaust and install a functional intake manifold. |
