I recently acquired this 1966 beetle, which is mostly rust free and not very molested.
From what I can tell, the seats have been recovered. I'm needing photos of the correct interior so I can track down correct replacement covers. Does anyone have reference photos that I can use?
Brown seems to be the correct interior color because the rear kick panels, rear seat support, and the metal carpet hardware are brown. The front carpet is tan and the rear seat carpet is dark brown (not sure if mismatched carpet is original, both are aged and square weave).
I added the black all weather mats after I cleaned the carpet so that it stays nice.

Your original interior would be called Teak. Not sure if the brown that Wolfsburg West offers is the correct color.
As much of a correctness snob I am, I really like the way the interior looks as is in this car. Although I don't think the material the seats are done in will last long. |

According to the color chart for 1966...Pearl White bugs came out of the factory with 3 interior options: black, pigalle, or teak (brown). I'm in a similar situation where I have a '66 Sea-sand with interior brown panels like yours, square-weaved teak carpet, and brown seat frames but I'm missing the period correct seat upholstery.

According to WW door panels could be either teak or Pigalle:

| Thanks for posting that chart, I'm glad to see that teak panels are period correct...now it makes sense! |

| Does anybody have a picture of the original rubber mats in a 1966 where the interior panels and carpet are brown (teak)? |

| ^^ any chance you have the original seats? They should be cloth correct? At least on the insert section. I’m in the same boat but my sea sand is the later chassis number so it has the platinum interior. I have pictures of it from the 90’s with white door cards, but no seats or carpet were it in. I’m trying to figure out if the cloth seats matched the leatherette pattern. |

| Unfortunately I don't have original seats, the previous owner installed brown vinyl seats with a pattern that is not correct for 1966. |

| It would be nice if someone could post pictures of original seats in a 1966 bug with original teak interior...I haven't been able to find any pictures on the internet (besides type 3 pics) ...they would be cloth, with brown vinyl inserts on the top section of the seat... |

I found this thread about getting TMI to do original pattern seats and door cards. Its a good read, but page 3 has the details you need for the part number. WW does indeed sell the correct kit.

TMI will send you up to 5 swatches for free so you can compare colors |

A fellow VW owner shared pictures of OG front and back seats. I asked permission to share them here. I hope this will help others in restoring '66 Euro models to stock specs (Seasand or Pearl White with teak interior).

In my previous post from 2018 I was asking for a source of original wool fabric or an accurate replica to re-upholster my seats...it took 4 years but I was finally able to find a close match to the original pattern (wool with black nylon threads)...

| You'll have to purchase the platinum fabric from SMS in Canby and then have it dyed in teak color by a wool specialist...the white wool will take the dye very well, while the black nylon threads will not get affected... |

I'm adding a few pics to this thread for people still interested in restoring a 1966 Seasand or Pearl White euro beetle with original teak interior. The original '66 rubber mats are similar to the teak interior panels as shown in the following pictures...

Hello, I'm looking for this fabric to put it in 1966 Bug of my son.
I'm out of the US, may you please help me to get to it somehow?
E.g. give me more info, contacts....
thank you,
Peter |
