Help me identify this old cylinder shaped exhaust part... I bought this in a parts lot awhile back and can't figure out what it is/what it is used for. A VW Tail pipe fits into the exhaust port, picked it up in some vintage VW parts I got awhile back...
Any help appreciated.

Looks to me like a farm / tractor muffler.

Maybe an industrial motor muffler? Or someone used a VW (or VW-style) clamp on it.

Many farm tractors of the 40's and 50's and even newer used a similar flange on the exhaust manifold. Could be for any stationary motor (waterpump, generator, etc..) or maybe even a forklift, nothing about that says VW.

Is it a VW style clamp?, or do VW's use a Fordson/Massey style clamp?

You are probably right. Bummer, I was hoping it would be worth something, LOL. Not worthless! LOL

Might be worth a few bucks to a guy with a tractor, so I wouldn't call it worthless.

It’s a John Deere muffler

DING DING DING!
Winner! Thanks! It sure is, with a VW Exhaust Flange Connection! :) Thank you.

No VW exhaust flange connection, just a VW type clamp, owner needed a small "U" type muffler clamp and the VW one was either available or cheaper.

Not VW specific, that’s basically a standard style clap used for tractors, riding mowers and such. Main difference is, it doesn’t use the gasket like VW uses, it relies on sinching down on the split exhaust opening as seen in the pic I posted. Other than that it is identical.
