Anyone know a source for the 100mm clutch arm? Other than a 75 or later beetle :lol:

The ad doesn't say if it's 100mm, but it looks quite a bit longer than a regular arm.

You might consider that a longer arm will change the angle of the clutch cable as it exits the end of Bowden tube. When used on an an older transmission, this'll cause the cable to start sawing into the end of the tube. Probably not the best thing for the cable...

I appreciate the post, however that is an inactive ad. Bruce does not have any listed currently . You are correct in that the bowden tube may need to be adjusted, but with a heavier pressure plate and clutch the difference in clutch effort is more than worth it.

The reason Bruce's ad is inactive is because they are no longer available new. Like everything else popular that's nla, they pop up in the classifieds every once in a while. I've been searching on-off the last few years for some, only to find one. Good luck.

I thought that would be the case, so I did some testing.
First, the various clutch arms:

# 1, 3, and 4 are what VW of Germany installed on Type 1 transmissions.
#1 was from about 1965 to 1972. 73mm long
#3 is from 73 to 75. 90mm long
#4 is 75 to 1980. 100mm long

Here's an early swing axle side cover showing how the cable lines up with the 90mm long arm. Note, this is a combination of parts VW never offered. The cast in support on the side cover was eliminated and replaced with a steel bracket by the time the 90mm arm appeared. The cable is perfectly centered in the clutch cable tube.

Here's that same side cover with the cable in the 100mm arm. As expected, the cable rides higher in the tube it exits.

Now the later bolt on bracket for the clutch tube and the 100mm arm. Still rides a bit high exiting the tube.

Here's a late model Mexican Beetle. Still exiting high in the tube.

What this shows is that it doesn't matter how the end of your clutch tube is supported, it's aimed exactly the same. It appears to me that VW didn't see the slight variation in the exit angle of the cable as a problem.

The 20mm shaft 100mm long arm is 111-141-719-F.

Aircooled.net last had them listed as 080-141-719.1. CSP has Flat 4’s version they are making as 141 719 1130. Empi has a 16mm shaft arm that is as long as the early 20mm shaft arms, about 85mm, and it’s #16-9918.

That will work for the 20mm shaft. The VW version for the 16mm shaft has been nla for 5 years or so.
