Sitting at work Thursday afternoon... I decide to see what’s cookin’ on Craigslist. A 1966 tin top Westy had been posted for an hour. I called the guy (owner of past 25 years) & somebody was already there looking at it.

He also said he’s had thirty calls & someone was driving from an hour & a half away to come see it. The price was right... so, I figured I’d head out of work & go check it out too. I called the Mrs.... to get her in on it (well, at least bring an envelope of money). She was game... so we meet at the bus.

The first looker had left. I was relieved.
It’s got typical rust down low, but not enough to put me off.
A pole had been backed into... so the rear bumper was gone, rear hatch dented pretty good (but included)... and the decklid hinge carrier was dented.

On the upside... it has a rebuilt trans, interior is complete... even the child’s cot.

I told him I’d buy it & that was that.

It’s the base model Westy (A42, no rack, no pop top, no tent).

No spectacular m-codes... but I’m thrilled to have s new driver.
My plans for it are to keep it running & enjoy... until I get through two projects already in the queue.

Gosh what a GREAT SCORE!! Congrats E! Drive it to prado!

Was that fella still on his way when you bought it? :D

Thanks guys!
I’m “on call” at the power plant... and have to be able to be there in less than an hour.... unfortunately, no Prado/OCTO this time.

Ya, guy was on his way. I made sure the owner gave him the courtesy call after the deal was done. He was coming from Ventura.

So, did you get it for for the asking price or had the flippers run it up by then? A friend of mine texted me to ask if it was a good deal. I told him no, it was a sreamin’ deal and he should go get it. He should have listened!
Is one of those projects in the queue a shop in yer backyard? Hmmmm?

Yep...
After looking it over... I said “I’ll buy it.”
He was on the phone answering some potential buyer’s questions.
He admitted I could have got it for less... but, I knew it was worth it.... didn’t even try to get him down $100.

Titled, registered & insured today!
Took it & parked streetside for cruise night... the Pismo car show (~1,000 cars).
It started getting dark & I realized I hadn’t even checked to see if the headlights worked... eek! I lucked out... nice & bright.

The new shop IS the current project!
I have to get it!!! Seriously

Wow. I am really into camping and the caretaker of that bus was not. What a great preserved piece of history. In a way its sad that the bus did not get used up the way it should have. Lol. Good to hear it will be driven!!! Congratulations on a great score. 8)
