| In the process of rehabilitating my factory AC. All components are functional. Have the Pro-Seal and Red-Tek ready to charge. I cannot seem to get my hands on a gauge-set and vacuum pump to evac the system and see how it holds a vacuum. I really don't want to buy these tools. None of FLAPS have them as loaners (even if the company web sites say so...go to the store and it's a different story) and two local shops refused to hook it up and pull a vacuum because it's an old R12 system (one guy was afraid any residual R12 would contaminate his machine) Another place wanted to remove the R12 high side/low side valves completely (even though I put R134a adapters on) I'm about to go to Harbor Freight and buy the gauge-set and pump...use it...then return them. Any suggestions? |

| Buying tools, using them, and then returning them is bad karma. I have lots of specialty tools I have used just a couple times. I would charge you 1.5 hours to evacuate and recharge your system. That's around $150. Buy the tools and hold on to them. Help a friend someday and I can just about guarantee you will use them again on your van. |

Buy them and hold onto them. You will need them again next summer.
I just did my 8th AC system with my Harbor Freight pump and gauge set, plus another 6 Ive loaned it out - that puppy owes me nothing.. |

| Cool. Thanks guys. I appreciate your suggestions. I'll just buy the tools and be done with it. Maybe I can use the vacuum pump to do fun science experiments with my son :D |

| Even a Harbour Freight tool can be made to last longer with due care or be destroyed through neglect or misuse. The key thing to do with the vacuum pump is to change the vacuum pump oil after every use. The pump instructions will say this, but it's really important to follow through. |
