It's about time I had a good crimper tool. Which one should I look at getting?

What are you crimping?

For open barrel connectors (game changing quality of a crimp) I us this racheting crimper with replaceable heads. It doesn't work that well for regular 'round' crimps. I have to often go back with another crimper.

For 4 awg or higher I'd recommend a hydraulic crimper

This one is recommended by thatvwbusguy who makes many of the specialty wiring harness many vendors sell.

Anchor makes a great catching crimper. I like that along with a few good quality hand held crimpers. Don't waste your time with the cheep yellow handled crimpers sold everywhere

This one has worked well for me for regular crimps.

The IWISS crimper works great for most of the crimps you will need to do on any Vanagon. Since the frame accepts standard crimping dies, you can add to your arsenal without buying a complete tool every time. Most dies from Pro'sKit, Klein, Panduit, Eclipse and Morris will fit into this frame.

For heat shrink and standard vinyl terminals, the Pro'sKit 9PK‑3003D27 die is unbeatable and works with 22AWG - 8AWG terminals.

Thank's for the recommendation! Will the Pro'sKit 9PK‑3003D27 work with the IWISS crimper?

Yes. All Pro'sKit dies work with the IWISS.

I love my amazon crumpet. Does open end barrel, insulated, non-insulated, etc. I also like how the jaws are adjustable to crimp tighter or less tight.

Have had an older model of this on our sailboat for years. Never let us down.

Highly recommended. One of the finest tools I have.

I have to agree with the Iwiss tool does some nice crimps and can crimp all the terminals on your van

Is there a guide that shows which dies to use with different types of connectors? I have a decent ratcheting crimper but need the correct dies to get good crimps on some connectors.

Thanks.

Spell check or not, it’s a bit confusing when a marine oriented company named Ancor is spelled Ancor. The misspellings are inevitable.

Got the IWISS from amazon.

LOVE IT!!!!!

the only issue it is now my nicest tool and I not only leave it in the case it came in I leave it in the box the case came in so crimping one thing takes a lot of box opening. I hopefully will make the jump to leave the cripper loose in my drawer since its only $29. I can't believe its only $29

Oh goodness, I'm not the only one...

I hope you guys are doing open barrel connectors because that's the best part! My I Swiss kit came with a flat head screwdriver instead of Phillips. Still love it though

This is what I use for most all crimps, it is a Klein 1001

I use the sharp pointed crimp for both insulated and uninsulated wire terminals. It makes an excellent crimp. I think I acquired this tool way back in '74 and have made thousands of crimps with it, quick and easy and dependable.
