Replacing my rusted out manifold with a used OE one from the classifieds. Ordered a new boot and manifold gasket kit from jbugs
https://www.jbugs.com/product/3412.html . I know, it's EMPI, but I didn't see a whole lot of choices available. But I just noticed that the gaskets are paper, not metal. Has anybody used paper gaskets with a stock setup and noticed any difference due to the loss of heat transfer? I understand there may be some difference, but not sure if it's enough to affect anything. |

I use either. I like to use paper if I suspect any possibility of leaks.. According to one of my suppliers, he sells a lot more paper ones. |

Thanks. I'll just use the paper gaskets that came in the kit.

On any single center mount carb I always recommend the stock metal gaskets for the needed heat transfer. The metal gaskets are a crush gasket and can only be used one time. |

stick with the metal ones....they work and always have...put a little gasgacinch or thin sealer on them....make sure the surface of the head is clean...i've never seen paper gaskets ....there are composition ones out there that are what you have to use when your heads are ported so you can cut them to match...maybe a pic? possibly what you're calling paper actually aren't?.....edit just clicked on the jbugs picture and they appear to be composition(regular "mister gasket" style gasket material)...they're ok but i'd still stick with metal for the heat transfer |

I just put paper ones on my '74 and they work great. They're what came with the kit, or I would have gone metal. I don't have a clue if they will be a problem in cold weather though. |

I re-used (shhh! Don't tell anyone) my paper gaskets on my '73 with some Indian super tacky gasket dressing. Holding up just fine. No leaks. |

I though the purpose of the heat for a center mount was for the intake...Not the carb....And in the case of DP, you have a thermal break with the rubber boots. |

As usual, thanks for the advice. Good to hear feedback from people with experience using the paper / composite gaskets, especially in the same climate as me. Think I'll give them a shot since they came in my kit. I understand that the metal ones were there to transfer heat to the intake ends, but not sure how much of a difference in temp there would be using paper / composite instead of metal. |
